Kailua-Kona, Hawaii - Irene Hanako Dong, 87, died peacefully July 22, 2021, at her residence. Born in Isleton, California on March 3, 1934, she worked for the State of California, was a member of Grace Community Church and a survivor of Tule Lake Japanese Internment Camp. She is survived by her sons, Mark (Jane) Dong of Sacramento, CA., and Gordon (Kim) Dong of Kailua-Kona; 5 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. August 14, 2021, at Grace Community Church in Kailua-Kona. Livestream at www.gracekona.org.

My deepest sympathy to The Dong Family for the loss of Irene. I had worked with Irene @ the Department of Health Services for the State of California in 1981. She was a very confident, friendly & hard working lady. She taught me many things, the importance of meeting deadlines & most of all to stand up for myself.
You will truly be missed, Irene, I am a better person to have met you.
