January 17, 1932 - June 2, 2022
North Highlands, California - James "JC" Clarence Davis, age 90, a longtime resident of North Highlands, California, was called home on June 2, 2022.
James was the youngest of four sons and one daughter. His proud parents were Clarence & Ethel Basco Davis. After completing his education in the public schools of Walterboro, South Carolina he enlisted in the United States Army Infantry Division. During his tour of duty, he served in the Korean War at the same time as two of his brothers. He was responsible for performing all tasks necessary to preserve lives and help make the mission a success.
After three years of service, he became a civilian. When he returned to his hometown of Walterboro he met the love of his life, Helen Lawery, whom everyone knew as "Doll Baby". He said with a smile, "That was my lucky day!" They became husband and wife on August 27,1953, and enjoyed 68 years of marriage.
James quickly realized he needed a job to support his growing family, so he joined the United States Air Force. He was trained as an airborne radio operator. While in the Air Force, he served in another war when the Vietnam Conflict arose. He flew many missions during his tour of duty in Vietnam. He also completed duty assignments in Germany, France, Libya and the Philippine Islands.
His career in the military took him many places, one of which was McClellan AFB in Sacramento County. He settled with his family in North Highlands when he retired in 1978, serving a total of 26 years of dedicated service to his country.
Following his military career James returned to work as a civil service employee at McClellan AFB. He retired after working fourteen years.
James and his family attended First Baptist Church, North Highlands. He and his family were active members of the church. James favorite song was "Amazing Grace", and favorite scripture was Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."
In addition to his parents, James was predeceased by his wife, Helen "Doll Baby", sons, Stanley, Sterling & Maurice Davis; grandsons, Jonathan Davis & Joshua Cashwell; siblings, Louise Simmons, Smith, Ralph & Herbert Davis. Surviving are his son Reginald "Tony" (Rashanda) Davis; daughters Jacqueline (Joseph, Jr.) Bennett, Shaunda Davis, Jaime "JD" Davis Nash, and bonus daughter Debbie Antoine Cashwell; goddaughter LaTonjaa Austin; grandchildren, Chasynie (Linfred) Lewers, Kimisha Lankford, Danyelle Bennett, Karen (Jeremy) Riley, Darryl (Shelena) Bennett, Nicole(Will) Rogers, Jared Cashwell, Alonzo "J'Vaughn" Nash, Jaymison Davis, Aaliyah "Jaz" Davis, Jonatae "Jax" Davis; great-grandchildren, Kephland "JaQuarius" Davis, Rasheen Riley, Autumn Bennett, Toija Bennett, Akirah Maloney, Johmad Bennett, Nevaeh Davis, Addison Lewers, Jaylah Lewers, Hendryx Holliday, Amaiyah Tolentino, Briana Tolentino; great-great grandchildren, Janaya Davis & Kayden Davis; and a host of other relatives and friends.
