James Dominguez Obituary

James Ray Dominguez (AKA "Jimmy D"), 85, of Sacramento, CA, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on December 6, 2018 following a courageous struggle with cancer and dementia. James is preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Yvonne, and he will be profoundly missed by son Allan Dominguez, daughter Brenda (Joseph) Vaccaro, his only grandson James Vaccaro, brothers Robert and Manuel (Margaret) Dominguez, sister Margarita Nevarez, as well as treasured nieces, nephews, and extended family. Born August 30, 1933 in Newcastle, CA, James attended Placer High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, receiving National Defense and United Nations Service Metals for his commitment. He retired from McClellan AFB after 37 years as an aircraft instrument repair technician and went on to provide in-home support services for individuals with disabilities to stay active in the community. James was a remarkably open-minded, accepting, and generous man, who was unwavering and unbiased in his compassion toward others. He had an irreverent sense of humor and delighted in giving others a hard time, a sure sign of his deep affection for those close to him. He was a loving anchor for his family and a steadfast friend to many. He enjoyed a very lively social life, rarely missing an opportunity to connect with fellow members of the Elks Lodge No. 6 for a glass of wine, seasonal celebrations, or to share a delicious meal. Special gratitude to dedicated caregivers Allan Dominguez, Brenda & Joe Vaccaro, Norma Wilson, and Scott Simonsen for their unfailing efforts to support and comfort James as well as the thoughtful family and friends who provided encouragement throughout the journey. James greatly valued a good party, so let's celebrate his life with music, food, libations, and laughter on Saturday, December 15th from 12:00 - 4:00 PM at 3860 Britton Place, West Sacramento, CA 95691. For more info, please contact (415) 515-9214. James will be laid to rest with his wife at the Camellia Memorial Lawn in Sacramento, CA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Elks No. 6 "Purple Pig" project benefitting children with disabilities by calling (916) 422-6666.
