James Lothrop Obituary
April 18, 1936 - March 18, 2023
Sacramento, California - James David Lothrop passed away March 18, 2023 peacefully at his home in Sacramento, CA, surrounded by his wife and children.
James was born in Sacramento, CA on April 18, 1936 to John and Loretta Angeline Lothrop.
James attended Sacramento State College where he met Joyce Parus, at the Newman Club. He graduated in 1958 and married in 1959. James enjoyed a 39-year career with the State of California, retiring in 1997 as a Chief Administrator for Caltrans.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Joyce, their children Brian, Katherine, Lisa Rumery (Tim), and Jennifer Hodge (Randy), six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and his sister Ellen Bishop. He was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law Glenda Coughlin, his parents, and his brother John Robert.
In his spare time, James enjoyed traveling, creating stained glass art, and cooking. He was known for hosting the most delicious dinner parties with Joyce. He especially loved raising cymbidium orchids and had a collection of over 1000 plants. James was one of the founders and president of the Sacramento Valley Cymbidium Society.
Above all, he had a deep love for his family. He is dearly missed.
The family would like to thank James' many caregivers for their compassion and kindness during his last few years.
A memorial mass will be held at St. Joseph Parish in Clarksburg, CA on May 15 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to The Michael J. Fox Foundation.

It is with fond memories that we recall our friendship with the Lothrops in association with St. Anthony's Couples Club and Greenhaven Businessmen's Organization. May the Perpetual Light shine upon James David and may his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed thru the mercy of God rest in peace.
