Janet Angell Obituary

Janet Christie Hughes Angell

September 27, 1928 - August 9, 2025

Carmichael, California - Janet took flight at the age of almost 97 in Carmichael, CA. She was born in East Sacramento to Evan and Elva Hughes, the middle of five children. It was in Sacramento, then in Orinda, Walnut Creek and finally back to Sacramento where she made many life long friends.

While attending Cal, she met her soulmate and domino partner, Robert "Bob" Angell. They raised their family in Orinda while spending most weekends and summers at the family home on the West Shore of Lake Tahoe.

Janet served as President of the Junior League of Oakland, Secretary of the Berkeley Class of 1950 Council and President of the Eskaton (Carmichael) Residents' Council.

Janet was very much loved by her children, Rob Angell (Cindy) and Beth Angell Cook (Peter) and grandchildren Christie Cook Buchholz (Henning), Greg Cook (Jessica) and Jared Angell (Gwen). She is also survived by five great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and their families. East Sacramento childhood friend Ann Mower has remained a big part of her life.

We will miss her sharp mind, generosity and sense of humor. A gathering for her extended family is being planned for October.

Mom/Grandma/GG/Janet: We will love and miss you forever.

I have so many memories from growing up as Beth's friend. I spent many nights on sleepovers in Orinda. I especially remember a birthday party where she made Lasagna for a whole group of friends. She was always kind and had a sharp wit. She taught me to waterski. More recently we shared jokes by email.
She was amazing.
