Jim Smith Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Alan James "Jim" Smith. Jim passed away on July 28, 2025, in Carmichael, California. He was born in Cook County, Illinois on October 1, 1944 to the late Ann L. Smith (nee Stahlak) and Arthur J. Smith.

Jim grew up in San Mateo, California and was a graduate of Carlmont High School where he made lifelong friends. Jim attended San Jose State University, worked as an engineer for the State of California and was a longtime resident of Sacramento. He liked playing games as well as hiking, biking, fishing and golf. In his later years, he was a devoted companion to his beloved dog, Archie. He spent time reading, listening to music and watching sports, rooting for the 49ers and the A's. Jim enjoyed camping trips with his friend Fred and Fred's family sharing many enduring memories with Jim beating everyone at cards.

Jim is survived by his brothers Richard Smith and Sidney Smith. Jim is remembered by his nieces, Shannon and Becky Skaife and nephew David Skaife, children of his older sister Judy Holloway (nee Smith) who preceded him in death.

May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
