I know this is many years later, but the horse that Captain Sims was riding in the 1962 Sheriff´s Posse yearbook cover photo "Lucky Jack" became my beloved horse in 1963.
If anyone would like to contact me and share some history of him, I would really like that. He was my pal for the rest of his long life.
Also of course, condolences to your family.
Sincerely, Jill

I treasure my memories of youth in SCHA, today's SHA, and how generous Joe was with his time and effort. He is remembered as an important cornerstone in that organization and his time and efforts were truly appreciated and benefit so many today. My parents, Bob and Emma Haenggi, and so many of our shared friends have gone on ahead of Joe and have welcomed him to that beauty that awaits us all. May you each find comfort in God's blessings. Sincerely, Carole Wood

My sincere sympathies to the Sims family. He was a pal for years on the Reno-Sierra Ride and I treasure the great memories I have of Joe's sense of humor and his love and knowledge of horses. Bill Sweigert

I moved to Fair Oaks at the age of 8 and became a close friend of the Sims. Joe taught me how to ride and I remember how he use to pull us kids behind the tractor in the arena. He also took me to his drill practices with the posse and after the drill I would help cool down the horses. Joe use to have a beautiful horse named King, no one could ride him but Joe, he loved that horse. Joe taugh me all about horses. I now live on acreage and still have horses. He also gave me my first job at Lucky's. I will never forget you Joe. My deepest sympathy

Fresh out of high school, I boarded my horse at the Sims' Ranch. Joe taught me all about integrity, responsibility, and the love of several four-legged friends. He invited me to his Posse drill practices, taught me how to work with my little mare and embraced me like I was family. He was the extended dad that I needed. He was straightforward and earned my respect. Even though my time with Joe and his wonderful family was brief, the memories they gave me have enriched my life.
You and Joker fly through the clouds! No need to look back. You touched us all while you were here on earth. I love you Joe!
