John POPOFF Obituary

POPOFF, John William
On May 23, 2013, we lost a very special man, John, who was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, relative and friend to all, passed away at the age of 97 in Sacramento, California surrounded by his loving family. Born on May 25, 1915 in Potter Valley, Callifornia, he spent most of his early adult life working on his parents' farm in Sheridan, California before moving to Sacramento where he began a long career in the flooring business. He was the proud owner of the Popoff Hardwood Floors Company for 50 years before retiring in 1980. On June 30, 1940 he married the love of his life, Minnie Sohrakoff, and together they would have celebrated their 73rd anniversary this year. They had four children, Janice, John, Barbara and Margie. John loved life and was extremely proud of his Russian heritage, He enjoyed playing his balalaika and guitar and loved to sing along as he played each tune in his favorite room filled with all his loving treasures and family pictures. He enjoyed life to the fullest and spent his free time camping, fishing, and working in his yard & vegetable garden. But the love of his life was his family & his grandchildren, Raymond, Patty, Ivan, and Kevin and his 'great ones' as he affectionately called his great-grandchildren, Brennan, Christian, Jayden, and Kacey. He is survived by his brother Bill and many sisters-in-law, a brother-in-law and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents William & Dorothy Popoff, brother Max Popoff and sister Hazel McBride. Services will be held Tuesday, June 4th at 10:00 am at East Lawn Mortuary Chapel, 5757 Greenback Lane, Sacramento, Ca. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite children's charity.

Mr. Popoff was a friend of my dad, Lee Jacobson. My dad called him "Big John" Popoff and always had good things to say about him. I saw Mr. Popoff a few times and was also very impressed. A fine, fine man who should never be forgotten.

Hello My thoughts and prayers are with you on this very sad occasion. I think we are related. My mother was a Sohrakoff (Nettie) and my dad was Manuel Fernandez, and they also grew up in Sheridan, CA. I have lost all contact with most relatives.I am related to many Popoff's I think.

My dad, Lee Jacobson, knew Mr. Popoff and always spoke highly of him. Called him "Big John". I'm not sure how they knew each other, possibly golf? But I extend my thoughts to you at this time.
