John Elwyn Snook, 90, of Folsom, California, passed away on June 21, 2023.
He was born on July 11, 1932, in Three Rivers, Michigan. John was a loving father of six children and a devoted husband to his wife, Jeannine Mae Snook, for 63 years until her passing Dec 27, 2016. John was a man who loved life and never stopped enjoying it. He was the founder of Country Candies in the Arden Fair Food Circus, Sacramento, CA. All of his children and even some of his grandchildren, and their children worked in the business. In 1980 the business was renamed to Snook's Candies and Ice Cream and Jim and Renee Snook purchased the business.
In his free time, John loved playing the banjo, dancing, horseback riding, and boating. He was also known for greeting people at the candy store, where he would proudly tell stories of his time as a candy man.
John served in the Air Force from 1950 to 1954, during the Korean War. After his military service, he worked at Wonder Bread before starting his own business.
John is survived by his 1st son Jeff Snook and wife Karen Snook along with their kids Jennifer Snook Howell, husband Steve Howell and son Harrison Howell. Daughter Kerry Snook Branich and husband Nick Branich with their son Ethan Branich, daughter Blaiklee Branich, son Brody Branich, and son Brixton Branich. Jeff's son Aaron Snook with wife Kristin Snook, daughter Olivia Snook and son Jude Snook. John's 2nd son James Snook and wife Renee Snook, along with their son Eric Snook, wife Alicia Snook. Their daughters Grace Vierra, Nora Snook and son James Snook. James 2nd son Daniel Snook and third son Alex Snook.
John's daughter Julie Snook Kelly and husband Michael J. Kelly along with their son Ryan Kelly, daughter Breanne Kelly McPeak and granddaughter Alaina McPeak. Shannon Kelly Lange with husband Asher Lange, and Julie's son Michael P. Kelly.
John's 3rd son, Jon Snook, 4th son Jerald Snook, Jason Snook and 5th son, Joseph Snook along with wife Sholeh Snook and daughter Marhjan Behinayin.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeannine Mae Snook.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 13, 2023, at 10:30 am at St. Joseph's Morello Catholic Church 7200 Auburn Folsom Rd, Granite Bay, California 95746,with a reception following. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that no gifts or flowers be given and donations be made to a charity of your choice.
