After years of great amateur golf play, Sully realized his first hole-in-one
at the Spanish Bay course in Monterey. His first was soon followed up on number the #2 hole at Castle Oaks course in Ione.

Very sorry to learn this news. I served with John on the RM CSD Board. We dealt with some very difficult issues together, successfully, that benefit the community. Subsequently, we worked on several projects together. He was a pleasure to work with and know. Always positive and supportive. I have known very few people with his drive and energy. God rest his soul.

I worked with John and his brother Charlie on the Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District "summer paint crew" under the direction of lead painter "Lou Mendez" (Boss Louie). The program specifically hired college students during the summer only and they painted as many schools as they could. One summer the program also hired some high school students as workers and that's the group I was with although we were probably more trouble than we were worth. But I learned a lot by watching the excellent work and painting skills of the crew members like John and Charlie. I remember Boss Louie talking about John and his antics and breaking up a few scuffles with fellow painter Tom Wilson. Tom played for the varsity Fairfield High Basketball team and John played for the varsity Armijo High Basketball team and I heard some stories about their fierce rivalry on the court. John was a super friendly guy and it's a pleasure to read about how he carried his work ethic and friendly personality into a successful career in wineries. Rest in peace John in that painting and winemaking castle in the sky with a paint roller in one hand and a bunch of the finest winery grapes in the other hand.
