Josephine D'Alessandro Obituary

Josephine D'Alessandro
November 27, 1922 - March 27, 2021
Sacramento, California - Josephine Anita D'Alessandro, (Noni Jo to her 6 grandchildren & 9 great grandchildren) passed away March 27, 2021, in Sacramento. She was fortunate to remain in her home with a loving caregiver, Mere Vuluna.
Daughter of Italian immigrants, Sam (Settimo) and Carlotta, she was born in San Francisco on November 27, 1922 and grew up in Sacramento, CA. Josephine was the first of three children, siblings Gloria Carder and Sam D'Alessandro II, both deceased.
She married Ralph Harmon and had 4 children, Carol Tillett Agnew, Gloria (Sis) Melavic, deceased, Ralph Harmon and Timothy Harmon. She graduated from McClatchy High School in 1940. When her children were grown she attended Sacramento City College at the same time as Ralph and Sis attended. She later graduated from Sacramento State in 1982 with a teachers credential. She taught grade 6 at David Lubin Elementary School and even taught in Sogel, Germany at an Army Base through DODDS. Josephine was very proud of her Italian ancestry. She was an avid world traveler which included Germany, Egypt and Russia. Italy being her favorite destination. She traveled with her sister Gloria her children and anyone eager to travel. The family always welcomed her with open arms. She also hosted foreign exchange students.
With her passion for knitting she generously gifted family and friends with socks, afghans, caps and scarves. At Christmas time she loved having grandchildren decorating Gingerbread houses. She was an active volunteer at her childrens' schools and the Dante Club auxiliary, of which her father was a founding member.
Josephine was a unique, brave and strong person. She regularly embraced humor and empathy for our world. Noni Jo will be missed.
There will be no funeral. The family is planning a Celebration of Life.

Simply put, I really liked Jo. She was a good friend to our family, and always a joy to be around. She was such an authentic, sincere, and kind person to know, and a great, and interesting, conversationalist. I appreciate the memories of all the visits and conversations we shared over the years.
Condolences to the family.
