Keith JANSEN Obituary

JANSEN, Keith R.
In Sacramento, on March 15, 2010, Keith R. Jansen, 67, died unexpectedly at Methodist Hospital with family at his side after suffering a stroke. He was born October 21, 1942, in Sussex, New Jersey, the youngest of five to Peter and Christine (Anderson) Jansen. He joined the Air Force a few months before his 18th birthday and served at Mather Air Force Base from 1959 to 1964. While at Mather, he met a beautiful "redhead" Judy Maxon. They were married for 45 years. He is survived by the love of his life, Judy; son Erik Jansen (Sandy) of Cool; daughter Darcy Miller (Rob) of Sacramento; and grandchildren Conner, Sierra, Johnny and Judy. He is also survived by siblings Carol, David, Peter, and Roger; several nieces and nephews; and extended family. He was preceded in death by son, Danny.

After leaving the Air Force, Keith started work at Janak & Scurfield Inc. a manufacturer of custom canvas and vinyl products. He specialized in reading blue prints and layouts of complex fabric designs for the military and aerospace industry. He was the production supervisor for several years. In 1976, he and Greg Turner became business partners and co-owners. At Janak & Scurfield Inc., Keith was involved with the design and manufacturing of many distinct and elegant awning projects in Northern California. He had an open door policy and was respected by his employees, customers, and vendors. He was also a member of the West Coast Canvas Association.

Keith was a kind, intelligent, and compassionate person who always made time for his family and friends. The "cabin" at Truckee was one of his favorite places to go. He was an active Dad with his children in youth and high school sports. Keith loved the outdoors and as a member of Ducks Unlimited supported wetlands and waterfowl conservation. He enjoyed gardening, golfing, fishing, and hunting. He was also a sports fan and a San Francisco 49er faithful.

A Celebration of His Life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 23, 2010, with Pastor Larry George officiating at Andrews & Greilich Mortuary, 3939 Fruitridge Road, Sacramento, CA 95820. Remembrances in his honor are welcome to a charity of choice.

Almost two months has gone by since you left us, and the hurt in my heart is still with me. Keith, you were such a good brother to me; a kind, generous uncle to my children. I will miss your phone calls checking up on me to know that I was all right and then our joking and laughter. Oh, how I loved you, dear brother. If Tony were still here, he would be so sad. Carol

I've never known a time in my life where Keith wasn't there. I will miss the days of El Noviero and our mid week lunches, trips in the corvette, talks of wine and loves in my life...I will miss the vodka sodas, the banter with dad and the sympathy phone calls following a 9er loss. Keith, it's hard to move into a period of my life where major events will be shared and you won't be there...it's an injustice I can't put into words. Thank you for your time, advice and giving spirit. I think of you often and always with a smile.

Keith Jansen was a super gentleman to know. I was very young to know him and he was always a supporting, kind and gracious man. I wished I was able to spend more time in California to see him and his wonderful wife Judy. To have a chance to know him was a gracious gift. To his wonderful daughter and mum all my love forever.

I never met a kinder soul than Kieth Jansen, through all the troubles with our grandmother, Helen, Kieth always gave us a hug or a kind word, or a place to stay when my brother and I would come to visit. I never kwas able to know him like most people were fortunate to know him, living so far away but that does not diminsh the sadness I felt for his loss. The world needs kind and good hearted people like the man Kieth was at the very least those of us that knew him could try to emulate him. I can only offer my deepest sympathies to everyone. I will miss him very much

Oh Keith, how much you shared in the brief passage of time as we came together as family and friends to honor our dear Russ. You lead by example, thought of life as a serious proposition with big splash of humor and acceptance. How your serious expression could so quickly turn into your radiating smile is how I will picture you. We know you're smiling upon all of us to warm our sorrowful hearts with hope and acceptance of the turns in life that just need to be. Restful peace to you my friend. Peaceful hearts to Judy, Darcy, Erik and families...

My dad "Keith" was truly the most inspirational man I have ever met. He had a love for his family like no other. He was the best listener in the world and had wisdom beyond his years! He was taken from us far too young and certainly far too unexpected! I wish I could have said I love you just one more time, given him one more hug... I will miss him forever, but have faith he is with me. I know he will always take care of me just in a different way. I love you dad!!!

My Uncle Kieth was only a name until a few years ago when I was met by him and Aunt Judy with open arms and love when I ventured to CA. for a trip with my cousin Larry. I felt cared for immediately and grew fond of him effortlessly. I will miss him. Aunt Judy my love goes out to all of you.

While I hadn't spoken to Keith for several years, I was truely saddened by the news. Growing up with the Jansens as close family friends was a big part of my childhood and teen years. Erik and I had our first job installing grommets at J&K and had many a Lego base destroyed by Keith and Tabber's pickle squeak toy. Keith even let us watch Friday the 13th when we were kids (and screamed more than we did!) I alway thought of Keith as a big brother rather than my friend's dad. Every memory I have of Keith is a charished one. Let us find strenth in those memories.

It has been many years since I have visited with the Jansen Family.

I grew up with Erik, Darcy, Keith and Judy and will never forget the fun times that we shared and the memories that will last forever.

I was very saddened to hear of the passing of Keith and I am saddened for Judy and the rest of his family.

Judy If you are reading this please know that you are in my constant thoughts. I remember you as a strong lady and I know that you will get through this in time.

Keith would have wanted nothing less.

Every obstacle presents an opportunity to improve our condition. It didn’t take long in Mr. Jansen’s presence to experience the genuine, affable, and congenial nature. Keith’s iteration of how we get to choose how to use the interval between now and then provides us with a learning opportunity and a reminder of the significant role family and friends play in shaping our lives.

I realize that the people who make a difference in your life are not the ones with the most credentials, the most money, or the most awards. They are the ones that care. Keith was that person for many. This reminds us not to put off, hold back, or save anything that would add laughter and luster to our lives. Aforementioned, take this obstacle as your opportunity to spend time with family and friends, Mr. Jansen would of expected nothing other.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you Darcy and family as you weather these trouble seas.

My heart is so saddened! It seems like only yesterday that I was riding in your old pickup from Saramento to Elk Grove. You will always be so special in my heart. You shared your humor, love and great wisdom so freely. You knew how to live life to the fullest and love all that surrounded you. Your spirit remains, but you will so missed.

We will miss your tinkling eyes and great big smile. Thank You for all that you gave of yourself to your family and friends. On Earth as it is in Heaven. Your spirit lives on in our hearts, forever.
