John H. "Jack" Jansen, age 92, passed away surrounded by his loving family on March 12, 2026, in
Papillion, NE.
Jack lived an abundant life; he was a remarkable man. He was born in
Long Branch, NJ, and raised in Manasquan, where his family owned two large lots on Broad Street. He attended St. Rose Grammar School and graduated from St. Rose High School in 1951. He was a graduate of Monmouth College. Jack resided in Manasquan until 1978. He then moved to Brielle, Cape May, NJ, and
Papillion, NE, where he lived for the past 16 years.
Civic and community involvement defined Jack. He served as a member of the National Guard and served two terms on the Manasquan Council. Many will remember him as a Manasquan Little League coach, BSA Scoutmaster of Troop 28, Knights of Columbus Grand Knight, member of the Plumbers Union, and a charter member of the Manasquan Elks. Jack's faith was his most important and constant guide. Over the years, he was an active participant at St. Denis Church, Our Lady Star of the Sea, and St. Columbkille in
Papillion, NE.
Jack's diverse employment years were marked by a strong work ethic and a "can-do" spirit. He began early by owning a lunch cart on First Avenue and Brielle Road in Manasquan and later bought and sold Circle Freeze with his partner. He worked as a lineman for Bell Telephone and as a plumbing apprentice. After achieving Master Plumber status, he established John H. Jansen Plumbing and Heating. Seeking a career change, he was appointed Borough Clerk in Brielle, followed by serving as CEO of the Water and Sewer Authority of Howell Township. Later, he accepted a position as Chief Financial Officer of Cape May Lower Township, as well as bookkeeper for the Cape May Fire District.
You need look no further to define "fun" than the life of Jack. He was a competitive bowler and square dancer, and he enjoyed bicycling and swimming. He also competed in multiple 5K races. He loved all sports and was particularly passionate about downhill skiing. He was a member of several ski clubs and traveled to experience some of the finest slopes in America. He finally hung up his skis at the age of 86 but continued to contribute to the U.S. Ski Team. Not one to sit still, Jack later took up golf, which became another major source of challenge and enjoyment. Jack never stopped doing his daily exercise routine and pursuing his hobbies of listening to music, reading, and watching crime shows. We will remember his appetite for life-and food.
Always a dedicated friend, he organized many class reunions until travel became too difficult and the remaining members too few. Still, he phoned his best friend from seventh grade every Sunday until the end.
Jack can honestly claim, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." (2 Tim. 4:7)
Jack was predeceased by his first wife, Joanne E. Jansen; his son, Scott M. Jansen; his parents, John H. and Marie T. Jansen; and his sisters, Rosemarie Steep and Dolores Evans.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Carol A. Jansen; his children: David (Pam) Jansen of Lakeland, FL; Mary Ann (Andrey) Konovodoff of Groveland, FL; Elizabeth (Edwin) Taraba of Morrisville, PA; Dr. James (Susan) DiMuzio of Myrtle Beach, SC; and Deborah (Christopher) Kuklinski of
Papillion, NE.
He will be remembered dearly by his 19 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
