Kenneth HAGAR Obituary

HAGAR, Kenneth C.
Passed away December 26, 2010. He was born in the small ranching and farming community of Duncan, AZ, in 1925, which his family homesteaded when Arizona was still a U.S. Territory. He served honorably in the U.S. Army in WWII as a medic and saw action in the European Theatre. Ken returned to Arizona where he graduated with a B.S. Degree and a teaching credential. He moved to California and pursued a graduate degree at the Stanford School of Education. After marrying Phyllis Pierce, he started a long and distinguished teaching career. His first assignment was in a one-room school house. He later served as vice principal in the San Juan Unified School District. He retired after 25 years to enjoy golfing, hiking, camping, rock hunting and fishing. Ken leaves behind one son, Randall, and a grandson Chris. Ken is also survived by his sister, Bertie and cousins in Arizona and California. He was predeceased by his wife and two other sons. A celebration of his life will be Friday, January 28, 4:45-6:30pm in the Sutter Room on the Delta King, 1000 Front Street, Old Sacramento. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in his name be made to Turning Point Community Programs, 3440 Viking Drive, Suite 114, Sacramento, CA 95827.

To the Hagar family,

I got to know Mr. Hagar when attending Jonas Salk Jr. High School in the late 1970's. I worked in the Principal's office for awhile and had the privilege to get to know Mr. Hagar. I remember a professional, kind, and calm man.

May your family be comforted by memories of better days.

A gentleman and a scholar. It was a real pleasure to meet Kenneth last September.
Our thoughts are with Randall and all the family at this sad time.
Rest in peace always.

I would like to send my condolences to the Hagar family. Mr. Hagar was my Vice Principal at Jonas Salk Jr. High. If it weren't for him, there is no telling how my life would have turned out. He caught me taking items from kids' desk when I was given detention work. He confronted me about it and worked out a deal with me to work off the offense without telling my parents. He really took the time to show me the right direction to go in life. I never got a chance to thank him for that, and would like to do so now. I just wanted to let the family know he made a big difference in my life.
