Larry Lawrence Obituary

Larry Montieth Lawrence

January 5, 1941 - March 19, 2024

Elk Grove, California - It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Larry Lawrence. Larry was born on the 5th of January, 1941 and departed this life on the 19th of March, 2024.

Larry's life-long passion was his company, Lawrence Mechanical. As the company grew, so did the importance of his employees and close friends who became like family over the years. If anyone needed help with a project, Larry was there with a helping hand.

Most recently, you could spot Larry zipping around Elk Grove on his bright red e-bike heading to Laguna Creek Trail to feed the ducks, geese, and turtles. His yellow happy face flag flowing behind his e-bike was a reminder to all that today was another good day. At 83, Larry was never one to slow down and had an infectious enthusiasm for life.

Larry was a doting husband to his wife, Linda, and a dedicated father to his children, Kimmy Merrick, Bobby Lawrence, Cathy Rice, Shelley Messer, and Philip Stephens, and grandfather to seven grandchildren. The gap he has left within their lives and hearts is immense, but the cherished memories they've made together will always bring comfort in the most difficult of times.

A Celebration of Larry's life will be held on the 27th of April, 2024, at 3:00 PM at the Herberger Family Elk Grove Funeral Chapel. A reception will follow at Happy Garden Elk Grove at 4:15 PM. All who knew and loved Larry are welcome to join us as we remember a man who made our lives brighter. The family invites friends to share some of their favorite memories of Larry during the celebration.

As a token of our respect and love for Larry, in lieu of flowers, we kindly request you to make a donation to 'The Bear League', a cause close to Larry's heart. (https://www.savebears.org)

Larry's passing is a somber reminder of the fragility of life. His friendly, social nature, and zest for life will be deeply missed but forever remembered.

I personally know how very difficult the holidays after the loss of a husband and parents. I am thinking of the entire family and hoping that they find a way to laugh and smile as they recall past Christmas days with this fun-loving, kind man. Rita

Larry and I went together at Enterprise High School and we both graduated in 1958. We went to the Senior Ball together and I still have our picture. Of course, We were the best looking couple at the dance. We dated off and on until I went off to college and he, I believe, moved with his parents out of state as his Dad was an engineer at Rocketdyne. Somehow ,we both ended up in Elk Grove. I saw him off and on over the years and always maintained a friendship. I hope some of his friends from Redding come to the funeral as he still had some friends there who were very fond of him. Yes, Larry was a great guy and loved his beer. He had a black racked merk which we ran around in. One time he got drunk at the street dance in Redding and I had to drive it. I had to be home by midnight or my Dad was going to ground me. He fell asleep in the back seat and I, who didn't even have a driver's license, drove it home bouncing all the way down 99. When I got home, which was right on time. my Dad who was a school principal saw me run in the house to announce that I was home. Poor Larry had thrown up all over the back seat and I had to go out and wake him up before my Dad called the cops. Long story short, he made it home ok. It's a good think his Mom and Dad were not home. Anyway, thats my Larry story. I was know as Nelaine in high school but eventually became "Kim"

I forgot to mention that I thought the obituary of Larry was perfect, and totally described the person he was. Whomever wrote it did an excellent job of describing this special person. Rita Hauf

I met Larry years ago through mutual friends. We always kept in touch with Christmas cards, and occasionally ran into each other at some social event. Like Larry, because I worked with contractors and architects over the years, we knew many of the same people. I didn't receive a Christmas card last Christmas, but he did send me a kind note when my husband passed away on Veteran's Day 11-11-2022. As I am sure many people will attest to, Larry was a fun-loving guy, and enjoyed life, and always supportive of family and friends. I know his children especially are so sad about losing such a vibrant and supportive Dad. I know how sad it is to lose a partner, and my thoughts go out to Linda and the entire family.

The BEAR League is deeply saddened to hear the news that Larry has left this physical realm. He was a staunch and dedicated member of our Tahoe-based non-profit and we always so appreciated his words of encouragement and support for our mission. Larry stood out as one of the most compassionate and truly kindhearted people in our ranks.... We are seriously going to miss him. Our sincerest condolences go to Linda and all of Larry's beloved family.

My husband worked with Larry at Atlas Mechanical in the '70s. We left the area for many years,
so did not keep in touch. We now live in Fair Oaks.
We send our condolences to the entire family.
