Lemon "Lester" Lyman

Lemon Lyman Obituary

LYMAN, Lemon ''Lester''
Age 81. He burst into this world on September 25, 1926, with a most amazing light and gently left on November 13, 2007, surrounded by family and loved ones. He was a man whose curiosity for life and love of play touched all around him. We know at this very moment he is playing his saxophone with Count Basie. His love of jazz was profound; he was often as close to the front row as possible at jazz events in the Sacramento Area. Lemon discovered the world while serving in the Air Force for 23 years and followed that up with 20 years working for the City of Sacramento. Each day he walked this world with enjoyment and fun. He loved the Bay to Breakers, maple bars, Rook, Corvairs, crossword puzzles, toys, and gadgets. He was one cool cat and will be missed by many. He was preceded home by his parents Melba and Verner Lyman of Minnesota and his sister-in-law Kate of Minnesota. He is survived by his best friend and significant other Pat Cooke of California, her son Eugene and her grandchildren Calvin, Desmond, and Vanessa; brother Don Lyman of Minnesota, sisters Marilyn McCarty of Wisconsin, Phyllis House and husband Don from California, Dorothy Nelson and husband Erling of Iowa, and various nieces and nephews. Daughter Janet Lyman, her husband Hank Siegel, and their children Sam and Alex, Mike Lyman, his wife Mary, and their daughters Josephine and Elizabeth, and Dave Lyman and wife Rachel send him off with love for what he taught. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, November 17, at Spiritual Life Center, 2331 K St., at 1:00 p.m. A celebration of his life will also be held in Minnesota on a future date. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to American Heart Association.
