Marjorie Reid Obituary

Marjorie Jacobs Reid was a pioneering Sacramento realtor, avid golfer, incomparable deal maker, and the matriarch of a large and vibrant family. She died peacefully at home October 7, 2017, surrounded by her children. She was 90. Marge was born in East Sacramento on May 10, 1927 to J.J. Jacobs and Marjorie Morrissey Jacobs. Marge attended UC Berkeley and was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. She went on to become a sustaining member of the Junior League of Sacramento. She married Donald Eugene Reid, her junior high school sweetheart, on September 4, 1947. Marge returned to her studies in the 1960s at St. Mary's College in Moraga and earned a business degree. In many ways, Marge was an ambassador of Sacramento. She organized the inception of Fairy-tale Town, served on an advisory committee for UC Davis Medical Center, and she was a member of the Del Paso and Monterey Peninsula country clubs. She sold countless houses to Sacramento residents over the course of a 48-year career as a realtor. For 43 of those years she worked with Lyon Real Estate, where she was a senior vice president and a life member of the Masters Club. In 2012, Marge left Lyon to start a family brokerage, Reid & Price Properties, with her daughter Nancy Reid and son-in-law Richard Price to continue her legacy. Marge was always in the midst of negotiating a deal and did so with legendary integrity and creativity. She worked well into her 90th year. Marge's work ethic was devout, her eyes were warm, and her word was gold. The only thing Marge loved as much as her family and real estate was golf. She was out putting on the green at 90. Marge leaves behind a large family who will all miss her deeply: her sister Jackie Devine; her children Russell Reid (Beth), Nancy Reid (Richard), Joan Reid Lapuyade, Sally Reid Clausen (Curt), Jim Reid (Marianne) and Annie Conover (Ken); 13 grandchildren and six great- grandchildren. A visitation will be held November 10 from 11am-1pm at WF Gormley & Sons, 2015 Capitol Ave, Sacramento, CA. A private burial will follow. UPDATE: A memorial service will take place on November 11 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, 3235 Arden Way, Sacramento, CA 95825. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Fairytale Town, the UC Davis MIND Institute.

A college grad when women didn't 'need' college; a mother to a large family; an icon in the real estate industry, beginning her career when women Realtors were a rarity; a creative and visionary force in the community - what a blessing to all the lives she touched.God's peace to the whole family. Thinking of Jim and Marianne especially...

I went into real estate when my husband was stationed here in the early 70's and even tho I did not work in the same area, I began hearing about Marge Reid. We were transferred so fast forward almost 30 years and we came back. By then the words real estate were synonymous with Marge Reid. What an amazing gracious lady. She definitely elevated the profession in the Sacramento area and will be greatly missed. Condolences to her family.

I did most of marge's termite inspections for the last 20 years. I really enjoyed her company as she would often invite me over to her house to look at something wrong with the house or just to sit and talk at the kitchen table.
Words can't describe how much I will miss her. Marge was one in a million among human beings and truly an icon in Sacramento real estate.
My condolences to her family. She spoke highly of you all.

Upon meeting Marge Reid, I remember feeling a little nervous. She was so well known and I wasn't sure if she would want to sell my small house. We made eye contact, she smiled that beautiful smile, and I realized that she was a really delightful person. Her quick wit, her integrity, her work ethic, and her magnetic personality made quite an impression on me. She taught me a lot in the 4 years I knew her. I will never, ever forget her.

Marge was an inspiration to me during my real estate career in the 70's to helping me with my later real estate purchases. She was the most creative thoughtful hard working realtor I have ever known, and I have known many. She will be missed. May God's love surround her and peace be with the family.

She was a mentor and hero to me! I have not met another Realtor, "Iconic" or not in real estate who was as candid, gracious and helpful. On a number of occasions I called to seek guidance and she always took the time to give... with kindness and encouragement! May God bless the whole Reid family.

Marge was always so willing to help other agents in the business. I remember having a great conversation with her on our Grandchildren and she was so excited to be meeting one of them in Paris. We shared those experiences and of course our business too.
She will be missed. Prayers and thoughts for her family.

I just loved Autie Marg as that's what I called her as a young girl. She was a very close friend to my mom and dad (Jean and Mercer Runyon). Also she was the reason I went to real estate and purchased real estate. What a great woman and friend she was and such an inspiration to us all! Our condolances to her family.

Marge was a good friend of ours for many years. She sold us many houses and traded at our service station (Campus Commons Shell) for many years with her husband Don. We well miss her and fell very lucky to have known Marge and her family. She was a beautiful lady.
