I just received news of Mark's passing and wanted to wish my condolences to his family. He was a great friend for the past 9 years. The last time I saw him he had come up to visit me in Portland and we had such a wonderful time. I will always cherish those memories. On Friday, Sept 10th I was at a Valley High School football game when an annoucement came over the intercom about Mark's passing. A moment of silence was observed in honor of Mark. I was very touched by the school districts recognition of Mark's life and commitment to the community. He will be missed by all who knew him.

The news of Mark's death absolutely broke my heart. That is strange to say considering we never met face to face. We met online over two years ago, and our relationship consisted of many phone calls, letters and e-mails. He helped me through many situations and I considered him a very good friend. My 12 year-old son also spent time talking to him on the phone and online and he thought the world of Mark. If a person 3,000 miles away can touch my heart the way Mark did, then I can only imagine what it must have been like to be around him. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.

Dolly and Family,

I was in Louisiana when I received the message that Mark had passed away. My first reaction was disbelief---total disbelief. Although I grew up with Mark and Winnie in Chico I had not seen Mark for many years. It was only this past year that I saw Mark again. He was the referee at my son's basketball game. At first I wasn't sure if it was him but the moment he took two steps forward I knew it was him. Mark had a way of walking that was unique only to him. After the game I approached Mark and his smile lite up the gym. We took a few minutes to catch up and I remember smiling long after our conversation. It was so good to see him again. I'm so glad that God blessed me to see my childhood friend before he took him home. May God touch you and your family during this difficult time.

Big as a mountain, gentle as a puppy, with a smile that could light up a room and a laugh that was infectious. I had the honor of working football with Mark the past 9 years. You could always count on him to be a calming presence on the field and a true friend off the field. To his family and friend I offer my prayers, I hope you find strength in knowing heaven got a good one this time.
