There are no words grand enough to express the love I felt for my Grandmother. She was the best hugger, cook and listener ever. Nothing will ever compare to her hugs. I was her little Yellow Bird "Chirp Chirp” and always will be. She will be forever missed.

My mother was a wonderful, kind and loving person, and I was very proud of her. Her story would fill a book, beginning in a little village in the Ukraine on the banks of the Dnieper River, continuing along the refugee packed roads of war ravaged Europe as she and her three sisters and parents fled on foot to find some kind of safety, forced at 17 to work in a Nazi Labor Camp in Austria, liberated at the end of the war and meeting my Dad in Munich, Germany, and having me about 18 months later, and sailing from Bremerhaven to the United States as an immigrant family with nothing in their pockets but hope. She raised three children, making sure we excelled in school and everything else we did. She became a citizen of the United States, and she loved this country and was grateful for the opportunity it provided our family. She never took a penny from welfare, and she made sure none of us did either. Her words were “ if you can walk, you can work, and if you work, you will be rewarded”. She was fiercely religious and proud of her Ukrainian Orthodox heritage. I miss her. Rest in peace, Mom.
