Mary Gross Obituary


GROSS, Mary Lou ''Twink''
Passed away peacefully in her sleep in Roseville, Calif., after a struggle with Alzheimer's at the age of 85 on January 17, 2009. Born in Fallon, Nev., on December 4, 1923, she moved to Sacramento as a child before attending San Jose State University where she received her degree in Home Economics. Upon graduating, Twink served as a stewardess with United Airlines before her marriage to Dr. Richard (''Dick'') Gross. They were married for 52 years, raised four children and countless chicks, lambs, and horses on their four acres. Together they maintained a beautiful home highlighted by the many herbs and flowers she so loved. The Grosses enjoyed entertaining and are remembered for throwing fabulous Fourth of July parties for their family and friends. She was a loyal friend who loved her extended family. She maintained an active social life and played Bridge with the same group of ladies for many years. Twink was an eager traveler who toured the United States with Dick in their fifth wheel. Later she traveled to Spain, an adventure which she loved. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband and her daughter, Janet Gross Anthony and is survived by her daughter Susan Miller of Fair Oaks and sons Richard S. Jr. of Arlington, Tenn., and Thomas Gross of Carmichael, grandchildren Natalie Eiferd, Nathaniel Gross, Jack Gross, Rebecca Gross, Kelly Miller, Leah Gross, Heidi Miller, Charlie Gross and Lindsey Gross. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 31, 2009, at The Rock of Roseville, 725 Vernon Street, Roseville, CA 95678. All are welcome to attend. Donations in her honor can be given to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America or the American Cancer Society.
