Michael Davies Nunn FEIL

Michael Davies Nunn Feil died in a car accident on December 10, 2015, in Nevada County, California, at the age of 35. He was born January 2, 1980, in Sacramento. Mike's dad, Lin Feil, died in 1999; his maternal grandfather, Reid Nunn, in 1992; and his paternal grandparents, Leslie and Neta Feil, in 1997. Surviving and missing Mike are his mother Janet (Nunn) Feil and grandmother Carol (Wilson) Nunn; sisters Libby Feil (of Jaffrey, NH) and Becky Feil; aunt Patty Nunn; cousin Tim Hebert, wife Allison, and their children Bridget and Andrew; cousin Michele Hebert, husband Ben Russell, and their children Louis and Simone; uncle Lance Feil and aunt Carol Sullivan (of Salt Lake City); close friend Doug Hika; and close friends Lindsay Walsh and her daughters Isabella and Sophia. Mike will also be remembered by numerous other relatives and good friends around the world. A native of Sacramento, Mike attended local schools, including Kennedy High; went to College of the Redwoods in Eureka; and worked at Vic's Ice Cream as a teenager. After high school he lived and surfed in Arcata for many years. He made a once-in-a-lifetime surf trip to Indonesia as well. Always looking for ways to commune with nature, he was also a snowboarder, hiker, lumberjack, and farmer. He most recently lived in the Sierra foothills: the wildflowers and waterfalls almost seemed to be a part of him. But he loved his friends and family and came down to Sacramento often to be with them. He was an avid reader; among his favorites were Hemingway, Steinbeck, and John Muir. He looked great in a cowboy hat, felt strongly about politics, and loved Dr. Who. He enjoyed good food and raising a glass with friends and family. Mike had a good heart. He served with the California Conservation Corps for a time and, after Hurricane Katrina, he volunteered with the American Red Cross in New Orleans. Over the years he had many beloved cats and dogs, including his faithful companion Shanti. We will miss seeing what adventures Mike would have had in the years to come. Six foot two, eyes of blue: rest in peace, sweetheart. The memorial service will be on Saturday, December 19, 12-3pm, at the Elks Lodge, 6446 Riverside Blvd., in Sacramento. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Save the Redwoods League (111 Sutter St., 11th Floor, San Francisco, CA 94104) or KVMR public radio (120 Bridge St., Nevada City, CA 95959).
