Mitchell Slavensky Obituary

On the evening of October 29, 2017, at 7:56 PM, Mitch passed away in Sacramento California as a result of Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma Lung Cancer. Mitch celebrated 63 years of life. Mitch was born in the little town of Price Utah on January 31, 1954. He was the first child of six to Althea Morgan Slavensky and Franklin John Mitchell Slavensky-- both parents from Price and Helper Utah. His siblings are, Scott Slavensky/Kerry of Roseville, CA, David Slavensky/Lori Domarchuk of Bend, Oregon, Christine Costi/Mark Costi of Elk, Grove, CA., Bill Slavensky/Betsy of Sacramento, CA., and Mike Slavensky/Amy of Jackson, CA., along with many nieces and nephews. In the high school years is when he met his girlfriend and now wife of forty-three plus years, Cheryl Goodman Slavensky. Mitch & Char were married on February 16, 1975, they have one son, Anson Ryan Slavensky of Windermere, Florida. After high school in 1972, he served an apprenticeship with The Plumbers and Pipefitters Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Program with the UA Local 447, a 5-year Apprenticeship Program obtaining more than ninety-five hundred hours of learning the various materials and fixtures used in the installation, removal, maintenance, extension and alteration of a plumbing system. His last year at the school he taught the course! Throughout his career he worked on new construction and existing plant maintenance, modernization projects in all types of industrial plants, offices and commercial buildings, hospitals, research facilities and other projects. He worked in an industry where he cut pipe laden with asbestos fibers and installed gaskets made with asbestos materials. Little did he know that these fibers would lay dormant for the next forty plus years inside the pleural lining of his lungs...while it is estimated that approximately 3,000 people per year in the United States are diagnosed with mesothelioma lung cancer, in which, there is no cure at this time. Mitch was the owner of ACS Controls Corporation, a leading provider of high quality HVAC building automation DDC controls systems, security access, and CCTV monitoring in the Sacramento and San Francisco Bay areas. Mitch loved to fly and became a private pilot in the early eighty's. An insatiable workaholic he was also known for adventure and loved to ride his Harley across country on road trips to Montana, Wyoming, back home through Snoqualmie Falls and loved the ocean near Little River on the Mendocino Coast. It was his dream to live there one day... The graveside service will be held Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2017, 11AM, at the Fair Oaks Cemetery District, 7780 Olive Street, Fair Oaks, CA., 95628. "Across the years I will walk with you-in deep green forests; on shores of sand: and when our time on earth is through, in heaven, too, you will have my hand." Thank you for sharing this dream with me...
