Omar Abdulfattah Mohammed Awad

August 29, 2018 Beloved father, husband, brother, uncle, and grandfather, Omar AbdulFattah Mohammed Awad (Abu Khaled), has passed away at his home in Rocklin, California on August 29, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. A distinguished figure in the Arab-American and Muslim communities of the Greater Sacramento Area, Omar lived a full life of achievements, balancing his love for his birthplace, Beit Safafa/Jerusalem, Palestine, and his new home in the United States. An accomplished businessman, he was the consummate entrepreneur, building himself from an empty-handed young immigrant to a successful businessman with three accomplished children in their own right. Omar proudly raised his children with his lifelong love and wife, Janet, whom he married on August 6, 1960, two years after arriving to the US in 1958. Omar was third of four brothers, Ibrahim, Mohammed (predeceased), Omar, and Zakaria. In 1948, when he was only thirteen, he witnessed the Palestinian Catastrophe (Nakba) that split his village in half, separating families and destroying lives and land. He, along with his siblings, would often speak of how families would meet at the separation fence to talk and even hold family celebrations. He attended Sacramento City College, transferring to Sacramento State University, where we earned a degree in accounting in 1963. He is survived by his two brothers, Ibrahim and Zakaria; wife, Janet; three children: Khaled Awad (Reem Mahmoud Awad), Reem Awad-Rashmawi (Elias Rashmawi) & Amira Awad (Isoud Manasir); and grandchildren Nadia, Amal (Ahmed), Halima, Haneen & Omar Awad; Janeen, Rami Abdallah & Sabreen Rashmawi; and many nieces and nephews. Services will be held on Friday, August 31 at 3:30pm at the Greater Sacramento Muslim Cemetary, 6330 Eagles Nest Road, Sacramento, California 95830. The family with hold Azza/condolences at the family home after the service.
