Pareskivi Varzos Obituary

VARZOS, Pareskivi
Katemis (Perry)

Perry was born June 7, 1922, in Corinth, Greece, and she passed away peacefully in Carmichael, with family attending her, on Monday, February 18, 2008. Perry came to America as a teenager and grew up in Chicago, Illinois. In Chicago, before marrying, Perry worked as a buyer at the flagship store for Carson, Pirie, Scott, a job she had greatly enjoyed. In 1945, she married Danny Varzos, who, like Perry, had come to America from Greece as a child. After having lived in several cities across the United States, the Varzos family settled in Carmichael, CA. In addition to tending to her family, Perry worked as a translator at the University of California, Davis, Medical Center. For 30 years, she taught Greek at the School affiliated with the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Sacramento, where she was an active member of the parish, and an avid participant in the annual Greek Food Festival. Perry was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Denise, and by her devoted husband of 49 years, Danny. She is survived by her son, Anastasios (Tommy) Varzos, and daughters, Nicolette Varzos and Anastasia (Tasia) Blazevich; by her grandchildren, Tanisha Mawyer-Head, Katina Lowe, and Aaron Head; by her great-grandsons, Cole, Dylan, and Trey Blazevich, and Eliot Lowe; by her sister-in-law Katherine Tsoulos, and by many nieces and nephews. There will be a viewing on Wednesday, Feb. 27th at 7pm at Nicoletti, Culjis & Herberger. On Thursday, February 28th, 2008, Services will be held at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Sacramento, with interment following at the Fair Oaks Cemetery District. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that remembrances be made to the Special Olympics or to the charity of your choice.

To the family of Perry Varzos:

I have fond memories of my Aunt Perry that I will always cherish. Thank you Tom for informing me of her death. She was a big part of my life and my brother Bob's life.

I spoke with her before I left on my trip and she would always end our conversations by telling me that she loved my family even though she had never met them.

My love and prayers are with you all!
WE WILL ALL MISS A FINE LADY!!!

Love,
Marge Sitz (Niece)
