Peter Brink Obituary

BRINK, Peter Kennedy
Passed away in Auburn on Sunday, April 13, 2008, at the age of 73 after a short battle with lung cancer. He was born in San Francisco on December 1, 1934, and grew up in Palo Alto. Peter earned both his B.S. and MBA at Stanford University. He was an officer in the U.S. Navy from 1956-1959. Peter moved with his family to Auburn 21 years ago as part of his 38 years of employment with Hewlett Packard. He served two terms on the Placer County Grand Jury. Peter enjoyed a lifelong interest in the outdoors sharing his joy of fly fishing, duck hunting and wildflowers with all who knew him. His best-known hobby was his interest in entomology, which led him on excursions around the world to expand his vast collection of insects, which he enjoyed sharing with local groups. He is survived by his wife of almost 44 years Norma Brink, son Michael Brink of El Dorado, Calif., daughters Karen Borchard of Camarillo, Calif., and Lori Brink of Auburn, Calif.; and his brother Holden Brink of Sacramento. He also leaves behind 8 grandchildren who will greatly miss catching butterflies and fishing with their Grandpa, as well as numerous others who looked up to him as a grandfather and a role model. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Placer Nature Center, 3700 Christian Valley Road, Auburn, CA 95602. A private memorial gathering for the immediate family was held at the family cabin.

I loved Pete Brink....He was not only a tremendous mentor and teacher, but a wonderful counselor for me during my first days as a manager at HP some 40 years ago. I saw a quote from one of his co-workers that struck me as the epitomy of Pete's career at HP "....if you cut him, I'm sure he would have bled HP Blue". In over 35 years of working with Pete, I never saw him not try to make the best decision for HP as a company or HP's customers. I was always amazed by his diversity of interests, and frequently quote some "Brink parable" from my days as his subordinate or manager. I'm so sorry for your loss Norma, and feel very bad about not keeping in touch with Pete after our days with HP were over. Just returned from a month out of the country and was sad to hear about Pete's passing. Bernie and I will remember you and the entire family in our prayers.

Norma, I was so sorry to read of Pete's passing. My wife Janet and I moved here to Auburn 5 years ago , and, I often thought of looking y'all up. I should have done that sooner. You and Pete were our landlords in Sunnyvale for about 20 years (we rented your house on Mallard Way).
Pete was always such a kind and fair man.
Your family will be in hearts.

I was very sad to learn of Pete's passing. I met Pete at HP where I was privledged to work with him. Pete was a fountain of information and life lessons. I remember Pete giving my kids a tour of his valuable insect collection and even giving them some of his rare ones for "show and tell". Pete was a great man who will be missed tremendously. My thoughts and prayers go out to Norma his family.

Pete was a friend of mine as a co-worker at Hewlett-Packard and as a hunting partner at the HP Duck club. I've always considered him a gentleman and will miss him greatly
