Raymond Mackey Obituary

MACKEY, Raymond Osborne



A lifelong Sacramentan, he died on Thursday, February 8, 2007, in his home in Carmichael at age 86. Mr. Mackey was the past president and co-owner of Campbell Construction Co., one of the first and most prominent construction companies in Sacramento, which was responsible for building many of the older schools in the Sacramento area, Sutter hospitals, the Wong Center, the library and student union at Sac State, over 10,000 senior citizen housing units, Bunker Hill retirement home in Los Angeles, the rice facility in Puerto Rico for the Rice Growers Association, and, in joint venture, the Sacramento County court house. Mr. Mackey was also a member of the partnership that developed the Downtown Plaza shopping center.

He attended Sacramento city schools and Stanford University. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service in the European Theatre. He was a member of Del Paso Country Club, The Sutter Club, The Grandfather's Club of America, and The Sacramento Symphony Association, and a past director for of the Sacramento Chamber of Commerce. He was also on the board of YMCA, a past member of the Vestry of Trinity Cathedral Church, where he volunteered his time for the food closet, and a member of the Sacramento Pioneer Association.

He will be remembered for his many generosities in the community. Mr. Mackey is survived by his beloved wife Barbara Brand Mackey, daughters Sydney Mackey of Angels Camp, Calif., Jennifer Mackey of Rio Dell, Calif., and Maryalice Mackey of Folsom, Calif., and his son Christopher Mackey and wife Stephanie Keale Mackey of Carmichael, Calif.; nine grandchildren Heather Latimer, Melia Mackey, Amber Pulitano, Ian Mackey-Newman, Julia Mackey, Alexandra Mackey, Mikaela Mackey, Lauren Snook, Tanner Scurfield; and two great-grandchildren, Isabella Latimer and Theodore Latimer.

Memorial services for Raymond Osborne Mackey will be held on Friday, Feb. 16, at 11:00 AM at Trinity Cathedral, 2620 Capitol Avenue. Reception to follow at Del Paso Country Club. The family requests that any remembrances may be made to Trinity Cathedral Church or the charity of their choice.
