I met Renee in 1988, a lifetime ago it seems, on a blind date at Pete´s Pizza restaurant in Midtown Sacramento. These type of awkward and arranged dates rarely work out but this one did, and I feel blessed by the gift of this wonderful woman in my life at that time. Renee was a beautiful, kind soul, extremely creative in a variety of media, an animal lover and an excellent cook, funny as hell and possessing a flair for interior design leaning heavily towards Fin de siècle and 1920s Art Deco.
In the early 1990s we lived on 16th & Q with our two cats and a profusion of Renee´s flowering plants in an amazing 1904 apartment with French doors, high plastered ceilings and the original dark wood molding and wainscoting still intact, along with gorgeous built-in cabinetry and bookshelves with leaded glass doors that sparkled in the soft light. Renee´s discerning eye for décor made of this beautiful space a warm and inviting home.
Renee had innate good taste, an easy grace and generosity towards all. I learned a lot from her about the way I wanted to live and what, and more importantly, whom, I wanted to surround myself with along this long, wending road. She remains firmly lodged in my heart-unto the end.

Renee was a one-of-a-kind, good-natured person who was a joy to work with. We toiled for a few years at the Governor´s Office of Planning and Research more than 30 years ago. Even though that was some time ago, I still miss her gentle, kind spirit, and always will. May the memories of her love for her family sustain all of you through today and onto brighter tomorrows.
