Renzo Corda Obituary

Renzo E. Larry Corda, retired owner of Larrys Barber Shop and a longtime Wellesley resident died on Monday, December 26, 2011. He was 86 years old. Larry was born in Abruzzi, Italy and come to the US in 1938 at the age of 13. After graduating from barber school, he worked as a barber for his brother in law and until he opened his own shop in Waltham in 1949. He moved his shop to Linden Street in Wellesley in 1958, where he continued to cut hair until this past August when his health forced him to retire. Many of his clients not only miss his expertise as a barber, but his kindness as well. It was like Old Home Week at Larrys, when you got four or five guys in there discussing everything including taxes and politicians and listening to Perry Como and Frank Sinatra on WJIB 740 AM on the shop radio. He met his wife, Maria, at a dance on October 28, 1948 and they were married in Saint Patricks Church in Natick in 1950. They have been dancing ever since and frequently attended dinner-dances with friends. Larry and Maria raised their six children in the house they built on Peck Ave in 1953. The Corda home was a favorite gathering spot for their childrens friends. Larry was a past president of the Italo American Education Club in Wellesley and an usher at Saint Pauls Church. The beloved husband for 61 years of Maria (DeRosa) Corda, he was the loving father of Lawrence E. and his wife Joan of Wellesley, Connie Corda and her husband Ken Freedman of Worcester, Elaine Corda of Wellesley, Stephen Sam and his wife Carole of East Falmouth, Gary and his wife Kari of Holliston and Victor and his wife Amy of Wellesley. Brother of Alfred Corda of Grafton and the late Giustino Corda and Eleanor Onorato. Grandfather of Matthew Lawrence Corda, Laura Mary Corda, Christopher John Corda, Kristin Anne Freedman, Christina Elizabeth Corda, Stephen Sabatino Corda, Kate Ashley Corda, Nicholas Vincent Corda, Kyle DeRosa Corda, Kaylie Maria Corda, Geoffrey Christian Corda, Sarah Elizabeth Corda and Caroline Grace Corda and great grandfather of Emeline Violet Corda. Funeral from the Eaton Funeral Home 1351 Highland Ave Needham on Friday December 30 at 9AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Pauls Church, 500 Washington St. Wellesley, at 10AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours on Thursday from 4-8PM. Interment St. Patricks Cemetery in Natick. In lieu of flowers donations in Larrys name may be made to: The Circle of Caring at Hospice of the Good Shepherd 2042 Beacon Street Newton, MA 02468.
