Sacramento, California - On August 30, 2024 at the age of 97, Robert Joe passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones. He was a beloved and faithful husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings John, Peter, Earl, Stan, Annie, Elaine and cousin Charles Chan.
He was born on June 25, 1927 to Hing Chow and Bow Lin Joe at home on the family farm in Walnut Grove, CA. In 1938 the family moved to Sacramento where he attended and graduated from Sacramento High School. He was drafted into the U.S. Army on October 6th, 1950 serving in the Korean War. After being honorably discharged, he spent his career in the grocery business until his retirement in 1982.
He is survived by his loving wife Dorothy and was a devoted father to his 4 sons: Gary, Kirby (Judy), Sandy (Lisa), and Kevin (Debbie). He was a loving grandfather of:
Michael, David, Marissa, Ashley, Courtney, Cameron, Leanna, Jon, Matthew and Amanda. He was a great grandfather of 3 as well. He is also survived by sister in law, Corrine Joe as well as his many loving nephews and nieces.
Robert enjoyed traveling and taking cruises with the family to celebrate milestones. He especially enjoyed the all you can eat buffet including his favorite shrimp cocktail. Most of the year he enjoyed spending it outside gardening and landscaping the house, and ending the night watching a Golden State Warriors or Kings game. He was a devoted Christian spending every Sunday at church. He will be remembered as a kind, generous and loving man, with a fun sense of humor. Robert will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
The family wishes to express our appreciation to the special ACC staff for their exceptional care and kindness. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in loving memory of Robert Joe to the ACC Care Center (7801 Rush River Drive, 95831) or alternatively to the Chinese United Methodist Church (2470 28th Ave, 95822) in Sacramento.
Robert requested a private service with his family. A "Celebration of Life" gathering will be held on a later date.
