Robert Whiting Obituary

Robert Whiting
December 15, 1924 - May 2, 2021
Roseville, California -
Robert (Bob) Ellis Whiting died peacefully at home after a very full and rewarding 96 years.
He was born in Hanford, CA, and grew up in St. Helena and Dixon. Bob graduated from Dixon high school in 1943 and was selected for officer training in the Navy's V-12 program and sent to the University of Colorado, majoring in Electrical Engineering. After graduating he served one year in the Pacific during the Bikini atomic bomb tests.
Bob went to work for the CA State Dept. of Water Resources and after studying at Cal, Berkeley, became a licensed Civil Engineer. He received a Master's in Public Administration from Harvard. Bob had a long career with many positions, including Chief of Flood Control for the State of CA, and retired as Deputy Director in 1988.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Norma, daughter Robyn Forsman (John), son James, two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and brother Myron.
We'll all miss his intelligence, humor, integrity, passion for learning, vast range of hobbies and interests (especially fishing), and care for his family. He was amazing.

NORM HUGHES

May 30, 2021

I was a Staff Photographer while Bob was holding various positions at
Ca. Dept. of Water Resources. It was always an honor working with him. Always so gracious with such a great attitude that I always left him smiling. It was just a great experience. I'll always remember him,
and think of him often.

I would like to extend my sincere condolences to the family for their recent lost. May they remain strong as a family and find comfort and peace in God who is near to all those calling upon him. 1 Peter 5: 6,7
