SPRINGFIELD, IL - Roxane "Rocky" Marie Basden (nee Shymansky) died on Thursday, July 4, 2013.
The daughter of Randolph "Randy" Shymansky and Sharon "Shareeka" (Otte) Shymansky, Roxane has been described by many who knew her well as a kind, sweet and gentle soul. She was motherly to all she met and never met a stranger.
Born in Washington D.C., Rocky spent the majority of her life, coincidentally, moving back and forth between the Lincoln Park neighborhoods of Springfield and Chicago. While in Chicago she helped care for her younger brothers and sisters: John Shymansky (whom she truly adored and who died in 1986), Linda of Florida, Katherine Shymansky Reed of Springfield and Mark "Boober" Shymansky of Florida. Growing up in Chicago she met the Moe family - Harold, Elma and Cindy. They were beacons of hope, joy and inspiration in her life. When Roxane moved to Springfield's North side, she met the love of her life, Mark Allan Basden. Together they raised three sons: Toby, Shane and Sean (mother, Debbie Tobin). In 1988 Roxane lost the love of her life and never truly recovered. She remarried in 1992 to Greg Golden but life never seemed to be the same. She had many friends including Debbie Toigo, Bobby Mitchel, Trudy Grant Iyappa, Gayla Grant Meneghetti, Kathy Francis Reed, Kathy Maisenbacher, Diane Holdrieth, Dolly Blair, Nancy Carter, Joe Swartz, Jerry Bagwell and many others who helped her along the way.
Her one bedroom apartment was decorated in Disney, much enjoyed by her grandchildren when they were able to visit. Roxane leaves behind many grandchildren: Colton Booth, Brett Michael Starkweather, Sahraya Nicole Basden, Tarayna Amerie Basden, Amiliyah MaRae Basden, Leonna Irene Basden and Anthony Tobias Maestas Ace Basden II. She always regretted not getting to know you, Brett; but would want you to know she loved you just the same.
Roxane will be missed and never forgotten. She is now at peace with her true love, Mark. From her loving sons, Toby and Shane Basden, "We miss and love you so much."

Rocky will always be in my heart. I met her when she was living in Wichita,Ks. I loved her as a friend. She had the best heart and soul that ever came across my path. I will see her again when our Heavenly Father brings us all to the wonderful world of Heaven. Love and miss you Rocky!

I met Rocky in 1974 in Wichita, Kansas. I always wondered about her over the years. She touched my heart and was like a big sister to me. I´ve always missed her and tried to find her over the years to no avail. Then I´m came across her obituary. RIP my beautiful friend with the most beautiful soul. Miss and love you.

You guys, Toby and Shane and anyone else involved, did your mother proud. That was one of the most genuine, real, heartfelt services and gathering I encountered. My hats off too to the minister and the short but simple and truthful sermon. The entire afternoon and evening dedicated to Roxanne was beautifully done. Just like she'd liked it.

Rocky was a very special person to me, like an adopted aunt and mother to me and my kids. We will miss you with all our hearts but we know you are where you need to be now...with Mark and I know your in heaven because you had such strong beliefs in what is above us. God recieved an angel that all of us will miss, I know she's Shining down on us as if she never left, A heart of gold and smile that no one could forget!

Linda, Kathy, Mark and family,
I am so sorry for your loss. Roxane was a beautiful person inside and out. I ran around with John and Linda as a child and had the pleasure of being around Roxane. She was always playing the mother role in your house. She will be missed in this world. I never had the opportunity of meeting her boys or grandkids but I'm sure she was a very proud mom and grandma. Shane and Toby I was shocked at the news as I've known your mom for many years. No matter what time came between seeing each other our friendship stayed exactly where it left off. I always respected her. She carried herself with dignity no matter her current situation. She loved you two very much and never a visit went by without a discussion about our kids. She always spoke with respect about her loved ones. But there was one thing for certain. Nothing could fill the gap left in her and Lord knows she tried. I'm so sorry to hear about Rocky, this was a shock to me. She took good care of my mom during her sickness when I couldn't be there. She cleaned house, did dishes when my mom couldn't stand at the sink. I always felt comfort when I knew Rocky was there helping my mom during the last months of her life. I know they are up there now catching up the last few years they have been apart. RIP Rocky, you will be missed but I will hold the memories close to my heart.

What do you say on this tragic loss, you just don't know. A mother does not forget the two greatest loves of her life so as you cry your tears remember your mother's love. Rocky had so much life to live and she gave all she had. No words can express how much a part of my life Rocky was, and will always be. She was more than my sister-in-law, she was my friend. Although we may have went in different directions at times in our lives she was always close to me and when we were together our bond was reinforced by the simplest of hugs, or a kiss on the cheek, or the sound of her laughter. She was welcome in my life no matter what was transpiring in hers. I will remember the good times and the hard times too. I will remember her face. And the simple things like her giggling over a silly commercial, trying to dance like a chicken or just chilling watching a movie. She will be our guardian angel through the rest of our lives. Family is the most important love and we must stick together, even though we may not understand why, and become strong as one. God not only gave me a sister-in-law but a true friend that will remain with me through the rest of my life. So close yet not with me in body any longer. I will miss Rocky so terribly much but the memories will remain a lifetime. I love you boys and I love you Rocky!!!!!!

What does one say or do at this tragic time, you just don't know. My heart is filled with sadness at the loss of my dear friend, Rocky. because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.
