Ruth Muir Obituary

Ruth Claussen Muir passed away peacefully January 3, 2015 in Sacramento, CA at age 91. Born in Chicago to Emma and Rev. Frederick Claussen, Ruth Claussen was the youngest of five children, growing up in the Illinois towns of Bensenville, Geneseo, Elmhurst, and Urbana. After graduating from Urbana High School in 1940, and the University of Illinois Champaign in 1944, she served as communications officer in the US Navy (WAVES) during WWII. Ruth taught at Peter Lassen Junior High School in Sacramento from 1955 to 1964. Her accomplishments include playing piano classics, helping her husband start a business, obtaining her pilot license, raising two sons, and most recently publishing the book "Three Surnames and a JR.". She was married to Logan Muir for 57 devoted years until his passing in 2002. Ruth was self directed, capable, and being sensitive to others always made the best of any situation. She was not one to boast and regularly gave to charitable causes. When she wasn't playing piano she was reading, learning new computer skills, driving others to medical appointments, sewing, and writing family memoires. Ruth had a positive influence on the world around her - she was loved by everyone who knew her. She is survived by her two sons Andrew and Alan Muir, as well as grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Services will be private, and remembrances in Ruth's name can be made to Salvation Army or charity of choice.

Our sincere condolences for your loss. You mother was a very special person and countless fond memories of her will remain with her many friends and family. To me (Keith), I remembered her as my "second mom" during my teen years and always appreciated her warm personality.
