Sally Harkema Obituary
HARKEMA, Sally Marie
Born April 17, 1944, in Ames, Iowa, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer. Sally was the beloved mother of daughter and son-in-law Angela and David Peterson, sons and daughters-in-law Timothy and Lisa Harkema, Jeffery Harkema and Annette Weaver. She will be truly missed by her grandchildren David Anthony, Shelby Lynn-Marie, Mikaela Marie, Jason Lee and Jourdan Robert. Sally is survived by her mother, Evelyn Ruth Thompson, and her brothers and sisters-in-law Gerald and Barbara Thompson, Richard and Helen Thompson, Dennis and Kate Thompson, Mario and Teresa Thompson; her sister Mary Vierra; and her beloved sweetheart Ray Vermette. She was preceded in death by her sister, Eleanor Thompson, and her father, August B. Thompson. Sally was especially gifted with the tender loving childcare that she provided for hundreds of children for more than 27 years. She has truly touched and influenced the lives of many. She loved to go camping and fishing in her motor home and boat. We all grew up with great fun and fond memories of camping trips over the years. There will be a viewing from 5:00-8:00 PM on Wednesday, April 28 at Bidwell Chapel on Third St. in Chico. Services will be on Thurs., April 29 at 11:00 AM, also at Bidwell Chapel. Progression to the Chico Cemetery on Mangrove Ave.

I will always remember Sally as a kind and loving person. She provided excellent childcare for my son, Shawn, when I first returned to work. She made the transition back to work easier by knowing that he was in a loving and safe environment. This was important to me being a new "Mom". Sally was a very supportive person and a good friend. My deepest sympathies go out to her family.
