Scott McBRIDE Obituary

McBRIDE, Scott
Born April 28, 1960 in Salina, Kansas; Died December 17, 2009 in Roseville, California of complications following a long illness. A former firefighter/paramedic with the Roseville Fire Department, he is survived by his parents, Robert and Lois McBride, his two sons, Brandon and Dalton; two sisters, Barbara Hurlburt (Mark) and Suzanne Solberg (David); nephews, Paul Hurlburt, and Patrick Solberg, and niece Sandra Solberg; his uncle Tom McBride, and aunts Margaret Pickering and Joan McNally; cousins Kelly Arbaut, Brooks and Trevor Pickering, Cindy Dallago and Tom McNally. Scott was raised in Southern California and Florida, graduating from Claremont HS (CA) where he excelled in track, swimming and football, earning all-conference recognition as a defensive back, and played the drums in the band; then graduated with an Associate Degree in Business Management from Citrus Community College (CA) where he continued his football love. He spent two years with the Charthouse restaurant chain, as a regional manager in Westwood, Marina Del Rey and Malibu. Then made a career change to move into the emergency health care field as a professional ambulance driver and firefighter in Manhattan Beach, CA. Earning his paramedic certificate he became a full time Firefighter/Paramedic with the Alhambra, CA fire department and later transferred to the Roseville Fire Department where he served as Firefighter/Paramedic, President of the Firefighters union, Public Safety Specialist, Instructor, and Hazardous Material Specialist. He directed the annual Roseville Firefighters Charity Golf Tournament for five years, raising money to support Roseville school athletic programs. He was a Fire Department instructor teaching fire protection and safety in the Roseville public schools and an instructor in the Kids Fire Camp program. He also served on the boards of the Tommy Apostelos Fund and the Woodcreek Little League. He taught fire training courses at American River College, Butte College, and Sierra College for future firefighter candidates. With his family he loved all water and snow sports, loved to watch his sons play baseball, football, run track and swim, and was an avid fan of the senior softball games in Sun City Roseville. He leaves behind a legacy of outstanding community service and unfulfilled dreams. A memorial Mass and celebration of life will be held at St. Clare's Church in Roseville, Tuesday, December 29th at 11 AM with a reception to follow in the Morris Family Center at the church. Donations in lieu of flowers should be made to the Roseville Fire Department Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 638, Roseville, CA 95678. Cochranes Chapel of the Roses providing arrangements.

Hi Scott,
We were thinking of you at our 40th CHS reunion. Can't believe it's almost 10 years since your passing. Save a spot for us, will ya?

I just got word of his passing today from his son Brandon. It truly saddens me bacause this man was my hero. He was one of my closest friends and the greatest funniest most generous man I have ever met. I look back and realize that I'm never going to see the man that carried me accross the stage at the firecamp graduation. I will never see the man that let me drive a firetruck because I was too small to drive a go cart. I will never see the man that gave me the courage to reppel off a six story building bacause he was holding the rope and most of all I won't ever see my hero again. Looking at his picture brings tears to my eyes.

Scott and I were roommates right after high school in 1979. We shared this great apartment right on the bay in Newport Beach and had too many great times to count. He could make anyone laugh and modeled what it meant to have a true lust for life. I will never forget him.

Dear McBride Family...
It's true...the good ones are taken much too soon. Scott was easily one of the most generous souls to ever cross paths with those of us at Claremont High School. He was always smiling, kind, helpful...lots of fun and a gifted athlete. I'm heartbroken to hear of his passing. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Dear McBride family,
Please accept my deepest sympathies.
My prayers go out to you and to my buddy Scottie.
I have so many wonderful memories of my best friend in high school...from racing around in the Ford LTD wagon and blue Fiat...to him shaking his long blonde bushy hair on the dance floor at all the dances after our football games! I will miss him very much! Gob Bless you all, John

Although it's been many years since I've seen Scott, I will never forget that fantastic smile and his funny, goofy sense of humor. He was the best CHS powder puff coach ever! My sincere sympathies to all of friends and family.

I will always remember that classic Scotty smile! I met Scott as a senior at Claremont High School and have such fond memories of him; playing football, water skiing, beaching at 15th street, coaching Powder Puff football, and just hanging out in front of Senior Quad. He was easy to laugh, always in a good mood, and he could make everyone around him smile too. I pray for ongoing comfort and strength for the McBride family. Scott leaves a great legacy... many, many, many people who's lives were touched by his joyful spirit.

My heart, thoughts and prayers go out to the entire McBride family. Its seems like only a few years ago a handsome, curly haired freshman walked into the band room @ Claremont High and become an instant friend. Scott could light up a room with his smile and he always had a way of making me laugh. I have so many great memories of band, cheering @ his football games and hanging out with Scott. He was a GREAT Friend that will never be forgotten. Memories that I will forever cherish !
