Sean McCRARY Obituary

McCRARY, Sean
Surrounded by his loving family, Sean Rush McCrary, a person of uncommon wisdom, courage, talent and integrity, left us on May 5, 2012. Even though he took his last bow far too early, he was grateful for all life brought him. His only regret was not being able to watch his 10-year old son, Caidan, grow up.

Sean was born on December 7, 1963 to Keith and Eugenia Rush McCrary. Sean grew up in Berkeley and Sacramento, was a graduate of the Sacramento Waldorf School and Pitzer College, and as an adult lived in New York City, San Francisco, and Portland. Although an avowed introvert, Sean was deeply loyal and had a number of life-long friends from high school and college.

With an incisive and often acerbic wit, Sean was a connoisseur of the written word. His career started in publishing, first with St. Martin's Press and then Ten Speed Press, but he found his true calling in photography when he joined Sandbox Studio of San Francisco. There be developed into a talented commercial photographer, and after moving north to be closer to his young son, established their Sandbox Studio in Portland, Oregon.

Sean was not only a deeply loving and wonderful father, but also a brilliant, contemplative, caring, and inquisitive human being. He is deeply loved by family and friends, who will perennially miss his worldly presence. Sean is survived, mourned, and celebrated by his wife Cecilia Speth, son Caidan Speth-McCrary, father and other-mother Keith and Lynette McCrary, sister Renee Kirk, brothers Bren McCrary, Timothy Erin McCrary, and Layne Gerrard and their families, uncles and aunts Jody Rush, Hilari Hauptman, Alex and Ellen Rush, and in-laws Janice and John Speth, and Sarah Stinson. Sean's mother Eugenia Rush Gerrard preceded him in death.

A celebration of Sean's life will be held on Sunday, July 1 from 2 to 4 p.m. at San Juan Hall, Sacramento Waldorf Sschool, Fair Oaks, California.
