I am deeply saddened to have just discovered Shawna's courageous struggle after reading the latest Pacific Review magazine. Shawna was one of the first people I met at the Univ. of the Pacific and we lived across from each other in the Freshman dorm. To this day, everytime I hear a Journey song, Shawna pops up in my mind-She blasted Journey every opporunity she had in the dorm! It made me laugh then, and her fun loving spirit will continue to make me smile and appreciate the love and happiness she brought to all those who knew her.

Although I never had the honor of meeting Shawna personally, I have followed her plight for quite some time and been touched by her on so many levels... because of Shawna, I have improved as a mother, friend, associate & human being. To Dan, Preston & Logan: I can't imagine what you are going through and my heart goes out to all three of you. It occurs to me, though, that Shawna has left so much love and presence behind, her spirit will always be right there with you. May she come visit you in your dreams and share the glory she has now found with God... His angel has come home.
With love and gratitude,

Dear Patty and Dave,
My mom has kept me abreast of Shawna's health. I am so sorry for your loss. I am amazed by her strength and compassion for her children. Even though I never met her, she must have been and Angel. Know that you and your family are in my prayers during this difficult time.

I have followed Shawna's story since the beginning and was saddened to learn of her death. Even though I do not know her on a personal level, I am inspired by her and her will to live life to the fullest. I am praying for her husband and children, because they have a long road ahead of them. May you find the strength you need from God and her memories.

Shawna was an amazing woman with tremendous strength and courage. She taught everyone she met valuable lessons about life that will never be forgotten, just as she will never be forgotten. Meeting her was a great blessing.

It sounds like Shawna lived and loved life on her own terms...and cancer may have taken her body, but it didn't take her soul. Your family is in our thoughts and prayers - as we know what it is like to lose a loved one to cancer - my brother, Matthew Maroot, was only 29 years old. May the good memories help soothe the pain.
