Thomas O'Neil Obituary
During his 30th trip to Ireland with lifelong friend, Rev. Leo McAllister, Tom O'Neil, Jr. passed away suddenly on August 1, 2002 in Aclare, County Sligo, Ireland. With God's grace, Tom's loving wife, Joan, joined him this year on her first visit to Ireland. Tom was also blessed to have one of his beloved grandchildren, Kiera Mickiewicz, also there during his final days. Tom was a native and resident of Sacramento for 73 years.
Loving Father of Tom III, Kelly, Erin Mickiewicz, Colleen Reilly, Kate O'Neil; Father-in-law of Debbie O'Neil, Tim Mickiewicz, Dan Reilly; Son of Tom and Regina (Deceased); Brother of Pat and Gary (Deceased); Cherished Grandfather of Shawn, Shannon, and Tara O'Neil, Corinna Marin, Katie, Kathleen, Chrystal, Colleen, and Tim O'Neil-Dreher, Kiera, Connor, and Kyle Mickiewicz, and Danny, Brianne, Michaela, Casey, Kelly, and Abaigael Reilly; surrogate Grandfather to Hannah, Jane, and Rose Griffith; Great-Grandfather of Anthony and Jose Marin; Uncle of Peggy and Gary Hardesty, Bob and Beverly O'Neil, Ron and Nancy O'Connor, Mark and Barbara O'Connor, Molly and Jeff Emslie, Patrick O'Connor (Deceased) and many other nieces and nephews. Also Survived by Brother-in-law Bob O'Connor.
Chairman of State Fair Board of Directors, Sacramento Redevelopment Board, RCA Board, Sacramento Host Committee, Regent of St. Mary's College, Moraga, Christian Brothers High School Board of Directors, the Hoods, Rotary Club, Pioneer's Club, President of the Grandfather Club, Sutter Club President, Alumnus of the year SMC, and Irishman of the Year.
Friends are welcome for visitation at W.F. GORMLEY & SONS, 2015 Capitol Ave., on Monday, August 12 from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The Rosary Service will be at Sacred Heart Church on Monday, August 12 at 7:00 PM. Fuscheduled for Tuesday, August 12 at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Church. Interment East Lawn Cemetery on 43rd and Folsom. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Thomas W. O'Neil, Jr. Scholarship Fund, St. Mary's College, P.O. Box 3005, Moraga, CA 94575 for scholarships to be awarded to graduates of Christian Brothers High School attending SMC.
