Timothy (Tim) Barthel Obituary

1965 - 2014
BARTHEL, Tim 49, of Folsom was welcomed to Heaven August 23rd, 2014.

Tim was born in Corvallis, Oregon in May of 1965. He graduated from Ponderosa High School in 1983, served honorably in the US Marine Corps Reserve and the Army National Guard, and received his Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from UC Davis. While pursuing a Master's degree in Computer Science from CSUS he maintained a 4.0 gpa, earned a graduate level certificate in Intelligent Systems, and was a member of Upsilon Pi Epsilon international honor society for the Computing and Information Disciplines. He was a certified JAVA programmer, held several software engineering positions in the Sacramento area, and spent the last 15-1/2 years with Vision Service Plan in Rancho Cordova, most recently as a sr. software architect.

Tim was married to the wife of his youth, Beth, in May of 1986; they were married 28 years and have 4 amazing kids. He and his wife were actively involved with La Providencia Ministries in Honduras and Harbor Church in Folsom.

Tim was a long-time Pittsburgh Steeler fan and a valued member of the Harbor Pirates softball team. Some of his favorite movies were Kingdom of Heaven, The Lord of the Rings, Pride and Prejudice, A Few Good Men, Princess Bride, and Babe. Some of his favorite books were Mere Christianity, The Genesis Question, The Chronicles of Narnia, The Hobbit, and Good Night, Good Knight. He loved to play board games, word games, and card games. He enjoyed puzzles, camping, kayaking, bike riding and spending time with family and friends. He said what he meant and he meant what he said. He was a life-long learner, thought deeply, valued integrity, kept his commitments, and loved God.

Tim is survived by his wife, Beth, their son, Ehren (22), and their 3 daughters, Susannah (18), Katherine (15), and Glory (12), as well as brothers Bill (Hope) of Merced and Steve (Donna) of Great Falls, Montana. His Uncles: Walther (Jan) Doege of Spokane, WA, Bob Barthel of Lincoln, Jim Barthel of Vacaville, and Dan Barthel of Carmel. His California cousins Corri (James) Renner of Vallejo, Christine (George) Zamora of Vacaville, John (Jackie) Barthel of Capay Valley and Robin Raymond of San Pablo. He was uncle to 18 nieces and nephews and 13 great-nieces and nephews and had extended family in Michigan, North Dakota, Utah and Northern California.

He was preceded in death by his father Willy Barthel of Shingle Springs and his mother, Renate Barthel of Atwater.

A memorial service will be held at Oak Hills Church in Folsom on September 6th, 2014 at 11am. Glen Brooks of Harbor Church in Folsom will officiate. A reception will follow at Oak Hills. He will be greatly missed by many.

In lieu of flowers, the Tim Barthel Memorial Fund has been set up to assist with service expenses and immediate needs.

Our family wishes to deeply thank our Harbor Church family, our Oak Hills Church family, Vision Service Plan, and Miller Funeral Home.

Dear Beth and family,
I had the pleasure of working with Tim at VSP on many, many projects. I couldn't agree more with the description of Tim's personality - he was an intelligent, kind and caring soul, but he knew how to keep us straight with the IT work! I will miss him.
I'm sorry to have to miss the service. It would have been an honor to meet Tim's family.

I was deeply saddened by the lose of Tim. But as a Christ follower, I know he is with Jesus....maybe helping out with some computer problems up in heaven. Beth.....you have always been special to me...you are so wise and I know you are going to be strong. I miss seeing you on a regular basis...but so glad to have you as a friend on FB. God Bless !
