Vernon Dawson Obituary

DAWSON, Vernon
Passed away at Mercy General Hospital in Sacramento, California on Thursday, November 11, 2004, during emergency open heart surgery. He was 72 years old. Our family wishes to thank the many doctors, nurses, and staff in the Emergency Room and Cardiac Surgery ICU at Mercy General Hospital for their care and compassion. Vern was born November 3, 1932, in Kansas City, KS, and has been living in the Sacramento area for the past 50 years. For 35 years he worked for the Pacific Bell Telephone Company in Sacramento, retiring in 1990. Since 1956 he was active as an Amateur (Ham) Radio operator with an advanced license and call sign of K6RRC and was the current president of the SACRAMENTO "OLD TIMERS" AMATEUR RADIO SOCIETY. As K6RRC, he was widely known in the US, Canada, and numerous other parts of the world for his design and development of mobile portable amateur radio antennas which he built by hand in his machine shop in Rio Linda, California. He is survived by his wife of 18 years Diane Louise, daughters Erin Dawson and Tracy DawsonValerio, son in law Manuel Valerio, step daughter Tamara Reynolds, step son in law Richard Reynolds, step grandchildren Mya ("The Princess"), Brendan, and Rebekah, step daughters Stacy McConnen and Megan McConnen, brothers James and William, sister in law Joan and former wife Diane Lee Dawson. Friends are welcome for visitation at W.F. Gormley & Sons Chapel, 2015 Capitol Avenue, in Sacramento, on Tuesday, November 16 from 11:00 a.m. until the service which will also be held at Gormley's at 3:00 p.m. Interment at East Lawn Memorial Park will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1765 Challenge Way, #115, Sacramento, CA 95815 or a charity of choice.

Vern was a great Radio Ham Friend as well as meeting him in person, it is a great lose to me,and to the whole Ham Group who enjoyed his talent, and is a sad moment to have lost such a talented,and most interesting man. I will always remember him for his interesting chat's we had on Ham Radio, over these last 5 years. I wish his wife and family the very best in this time of lose of such a wonderful and fine fellow, husband, father and a friend to the Ham community,

Vern was someone that will never be forgotten. He left a lasting impression with the both of us and our children. He was truely an amazing man that will forever be in our hearts. His voice, his smile...He is missed. Rest in Peace K6RRC
