Victor Stiles Obituary


STILES, Victor
Passed away on October 12, 2009 at his home in Sacramento, CA after a courageous battle with prostate cancer. Born on June 29, 1951 in Vallejo, CA, Victor was preceded in death by his father, George Benjamin Stiles. He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Tina Stiles; his children, Christopher Stiles, Heather Stiles Blair and her husband Mike; his stepchildren, Georgine and Brandon Hodgkinson; and granddaughters Abigail and Olivia Hodgkinson-Norton. Additionally, he is survived by his mother Helen Arndt Cook and sister Linda Stiles Taylor, brother-in-law Brad Taylor and their daughters, Alyssa and Jessamy. Retired from the Franchise Tax Board after 36 years of service, his last position was managing the Network Engineering Section in the Technology Services Division. Victor had a passion for life; he loved camping and backpacking with family and friends. He enjoyed riding his bike and supported Breathe California by participating in the annual Emigrant Trail Bike Trek with the Fabulous Flamingo Flyers Bike Team. A service to honor his life will be held at 1:00PM on Friday, October 23rd at St. Michael's Episcopal Church, 2140 Mission Ave., Carmichael CA 95608. Victor...you gave me opportunities despite negative comments. You took me under your wing and showed me the ropes. You became a mentor and a friend. You kept work separate from your private life, which meant my friendship with your beloved wife was never in jeopardy. It might have taken me some time to switch from calling you Vic to Victor, but you put up with my slips. You introduced me to your awesome Network group and I can't imagine working without them. But that's just you. You gave without taking, always thinking of others before yourself. The silence of your leadership is deafening. I don't have the words to express my gratitude for contributing to the making of who I am today, but I know I'm not alone. You touched so many lives and helped so many people. Thank you Victor. I miss you.

Tina, my heart goes out to you during this very difficult time. Victor was such a kind and gentle spirit, and I enjoyed working with him. I still struggle with my own loss of Marvin, so there are few words of comfort I can offer, other than to take each day, or hour, or moment one at a time. And approach each step with a spirit of gratitude. Love and hugs to you and the family. Marianne
