Walter Strassenburg Obituary

In the late evening on December 5, 2015, Walter (Wally) Strassenburg, 96 years old, passed away at Caring Hearts, a small home he enjoyed living in the last six months of his life. Linda, his adoring daughter, and his good friend Charlene, were by his side when he peacefully took his last breath. He never complained about anything and was the most honest man you would ever meet. Wally was an amazing man who could entertain anyone with his clever and funny stories, which he had "probably told you already." He was very proud of his career in the Army during World War II and talked of it often, always commenting about how he "never had to fire a shot!" Wally loved to write. In his earlier years he wrote many "jingles" and would win prizes. At age 96 he wrote a story called "Love of Birds" and won Honorable Mention in a contest. When Wally was out of high school, he went to Engineering College for several years, then graduated from a Teachers College. He ended up working for the railroad and after 35 years he retired. He also worked for LA County for ten years. Wally is survived by many loving family members and friends who will miss him dearly! He was cremated and buried in Camellia Memory Lawn on December 10. His Memorial will be on January 9, 2016, at 2:00 PM at the Elk Grove Congregational Church in Elk Grove, where he was a member and served in many ways for almost 25 years.
