Rev. William F. Breault, S.J.

Breault, S.J., Rev. William F. Father William F. Breault, S.J., artist, author, archivist and teacher, died June 29, 2015 at Sacred Heart Jesuit Center, Los Gatos. He was 88. Bill was born in Saratoga Springs, NY on December 17, 1926, the son of Cyril Breault and Ruth LaBonte Breault. While in his teens the family moved to Inglewood, CA. His high school education was interrupted by a stint in the Army Air Corps (1945-46); he returned for his diploma and attended evening college while supporting himself at his own business, painting parking lots. He entered the Jesuit novitiate at Los Gatos on August 14, 1949. His Jesuit studies took him to Gonzaga University for degrees in English and Philosophy and to Alma College, Los Gatos, for Theology. He was ordained a priest in San Francisco on June 8, 1962. He also earned degrees in Drama (MA, San Francisco State University) and Art (BA, Notre Dame de Namur University, MA, Chico State University). Bill's ministry was varied. He was a high school teacher at Loyola High School, Los Angeles, St. Ignatius College Prep, San Francisco and Jesuit High School, Sacramento, where he was Artist in Residence from 1969-2011. He was active in producing religious programs for parish use and for television, both on the local and national level. He wrote and recorded a successful series of audio tape meditations, wrote books of meditations and prayers, as well as historical works and fiction. For many years he served as the archivist for the Diocese of Sacramento. He was an acclaimed artist whose work in gallery showings garnered praise for their "indisputable craftsmanship and original inspiration." Bill's survivors include a brother, James, of Wilton, CA, two sisters, Alice Breault, of Sacramento, and Jane Hogg, of Roseville, nephew, Bro. Michael Breault, S.J., and many other nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers Jean and Earl. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, July 6 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Jesuit Center, 300 College Avenue, Los Gatos, CA 95930, with burial immediately after at Santa Clara Mission Cemetery, 490 Lincoln Street, Santa Clara, CA 95050. A Memorial Mass will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 8 at Jesuit High, 1200 Jacob Lane, Carmichael, CA 95608.
