William HEPWORTH Obituary

HEPWORTH, William Dennis
Found his peace June 9, 2011 at the age of 71. Bill was born May 2, 1940, in Los Angeles, California to Isabella and William Hepworth (former mayor of Morongo Valley, California), graduated from Dorsey High School in 1958 and attended California State University, Los Angeles. He was an Eagle Scout, a proud member of the Barons fraternity, the Native Sons of the Golden West Parlor #17, former mayor of the City of Sutter Creek, and long time City Council member. Bill served in the military during the Vietnam War. He married Barbara Bloss Hepworth in 1963 and soon after, his beloved son Bill and daughter Joyce were born. The family moved from San Jose to make their home in Amador County in 1976. Bill worked as a sales representative for roofing companies while he raised his family. He was always a top performer because of his integrity and his genuine caring and concern for people. He served as a track coach and a scout master for many years while his children were growing up. When he married Sue Gorman Hepworth in 1987 he became stepfather to John, Kerry, and Sean. The two blended their families and enjoyed many years of happiness together. A passionate supporter of the City of Sutter Creek, Bill has long served on the beautification committee, was a member of the Amador County Cemetery Board, a Trustee of the Monteverde Store, and he worked on countless other committees and projects to enhance and preserve the city. To Sutter Creek residents he was a familiar sight and could often be seen picking up trash, volunteering his time, or, with a twinkle in his eye, warmly shaking hands and chatting with passersby. Bill was nothing if not proud of his two children and five grandchildren. He leaves behind his son, William P. Hepworth (Elizabeth), daughter Joyce Hepworth Winters (Scott), brother Bob Hepworth (Margaret); granddaughters Caty Burnett, Grace Hepworth, Ciara and Carly Winters, grandson Colby Winters; niece Arlene Pace (Dan), nephew Donald Hepworth; wife of 24 years Sue Hepworth and her children John Cronin, Kerry Flynn, and Sean Cronin; former wife Barbara Canevari, and countless dear friends and fraternity brothers. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bodie Foundation of Bodie State Historic Park, Bill's favorite place in the world besides Sutter Creek. Please join us to celebrate Bill's life on Friday, June 17, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. at the Trinity Episcopal Church, 430 California 49, Sutter Creek. Reception immediately following.
