William McSweeney Obituary

McSWEENEY, Sr., William F. Bill passed away peacefully on August 20 surrounded and supported by his loving family. Our "leftover firecracker" was born and raised in San Francisco. Born on July 5, 1928, he attended St. Anne of the Sunset, St. Ignatius High School and graduated from USF (1950). Bill was a loving and devoted husband to Joan for over 59 years and the adored father of Bill (Nancy), Bob (Nicole), Tom (Julie), Joanne (John (d)), Brian (Annamarie), Joe (d) (Cathy), Carol (Jim) and Kathy (Tony) and best grandfather to 21 beloved grandchildren. Bill was a proud U.S. Army veteran who served during the Korean War. Bill was an executive with PTT/ATT and retired as a Division Manager after 40 years of service. He enjoyed golf, watering the yard, his birthday, a cold bottle of beer, family vacations, the SF Giants and traveling to "The Islands." His greatest love was his wife Joan and attending every event involving each of his children and grandchildren. Bill was a lifelong active member of the Catholic community. We will celebrate Bill's life with a Rosary on Sunday, August 24 at 5 p.m. at St. Nicholas Church, Los Altos, California. The funeral mass will be held at St. Nicholas at 10 a.m. on Monday, August 25. Reception immediately following. Donations in Bill's honor may be made to St. Nicholas Church. I was so sorry to hear of Mr.McSweeney's passing. He certainly made a lasting positive influence to my life and perspective of family. I also just learned of Joey's passing. I can remember the last time I saw him at a Cal game peppering me with questions with his infectious laugh and spirit. They are missed!

I knew Mr. McSweeney exactly as pictured, with a big smile on his face. Hard to remember him not smiling. Some of my fondest child hood memories are of being around his house and backyard on Saturdays with the Giants on the radio. It's been years, nay, decades since I last had the pleasure of his company but my memories of him are as vivid as ever. My condolences to Joan, his Mrs, and his family. My fondest regards, Scott Raley

I remember Mr. McSweeney exactly as pictured-with a big smile on his face. I knew him as a neighbor growing up on the same street as his kids. I remember him as kind, boisterous, happy and generous. It's been years, nay, decades since I had the pleasure of his company, but my memories of him are as vivid as ever. Some of my fondest child hood memories are of playing and working with his kids around their yard on Saturdays, with the Giants on the radio. Please accept my most sincere condolences for your loss. An irreplaceable man. Condolences to Joan, his Mrs, and all his children. My fondest regards, Scott Raley7

I knew Mr. McSweeney exactly as pictured (except I'm not sure I saw him in a tux!) with a big smile on his face. I knew him as a kind, boisterous, happy and generous neighbor. Some of my happiest childhood memories are playing and working around his house and yard on Saturdays, with the Giants game on the radio. It's been years, nay, decades since I last saw him but my memories of him (and his family)are as vivid as can be. My most sincere condolences to Joan, his 'Mrs', and his family. My fondest regards, Scott Raley
