Lena Ruper Obituary

LITTLE VALLEY - Lena "Karoline" M. Ruper, 92, of Napoli, passed away on Saturday (April 1, 2023) peacefully with her family at her side.

She was born Nov. 9, 1930, in Joliet, Ill., the daughter of the late Karl F. and Margrethe Pedersen-Dal Ekelund. She moved to Little Valley in 1935 at the age of 5.

Lena graduated from the former Little Valley High School. She had owned and operated the Village Thrift Shop in Little Valley for 23 years (1980-1993). She served as the Napoli Town Supervisor for 28 years starting in 1984.

She was a member of the Little Valley American Legion Auxiliary and the Little Valley VFW Auxiliary. She served as Secretary/Treasurer of the Cattaraugus County Supervisors' Association for 33 years and was a member of the Cattaraugus County Traffic Safety Board since 1995. Lena was currently an active member of the Randolph First Baptist Church.

Lena is survived by four children, Karen Sue (Mark) Burr and Brian, Lars and Paul Ruper; 10 grandchildren, Matthew Burch, Nicole (Scott) Gee, Abraham (Marissa) Ruper, Crystal (Jeff) Wright, Karen Sue Ruper, Christopher Ruper, Andrew (Mary) Burr, Stephen Burr, Kelli (Francis) Sparks and Nickolas Burr. She is also survived by two very special children, Courteney and Joshua Halterman, and 18 great-grandchildren, Corrine (Matt) Ryan; Nicholas and Emily (Nicole); Levi, Olivia, Natalie, Micah, Haven and Zahria (Abraham); Chloe (Crystal); Mark, Paul, Mackenzie and Luke (Andrew); Francis II, Kali Jean and Kaia (Kelli).

She was predeceased by her husband, Harold, in 2011; a son, Michael, in 1956; her mother in 1967 and her father in 1980.

At her request, there will be no visitation held at this time. A memorial service will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in the Little Valley Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Randolph First Baptist Church, the Randolph library, the Randolph Ambulance or the Little Valley library.
