Barbara Ann Mills Beaver, age 92, passed away on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at Trinity Oaks Health and Rehab of Salisbury. Born on December 4, 1931, in Salisbury, Barbara was the daughter of the late Fred Lee Mills and Hazzie Elizabeth Lemly Mills.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Clarence Baker Beaver, Jr; brother, Fred Thomas Mills; and sister, Betty Jane Lentz.
Barbara graduated from Boyden High School in 1950. She then attended Salisbury Business College. She also graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a certificate in Credit Union Management.
Barbara's first job was with Kress “Five and Dime” store during her high school years. After high school, she worked for Piedmont Mill Supply. She married Clarence Beaver, Jr. on July 24, 1953, following his service in the Korean War.
Barbara worked for the SALVAHO Credit Union at the VA Hospital for many years, working her way up to the position of Credit Union Manager.
She was in the Salisbury Merchant's Association. She was also president of the Salisbury Credit Women's Association. She also participated in the Choral Society for many years also. She absolutely loved to sing!
Barbara was a lifetime member of Haven Lutheran Church. She was in the adult choir for almost 70 years. She also led the children's choir for many years. She was a faithful member of the Women of the ELCA. She also served in many capacities in church leadership.
Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, John Michael Beaver (Sherri) who lives in Charlotte, and Clarence Baker Beaver III (Carol) who lives in Salisbury. Barbara is also survived by 5 grandchildren: Sara Legler (Ben; Laramie, WY), Tom Beaver (Salisbury), Robert Beaver (Laura; Arden, NC), Adam Beaver (Fiancee, Christine-Charleston, SC), John Beaver (Abby-Concord, NC); 3 great-granddaughters: Coraline Legler, Frances and Palmer Beaver.
A funeral service will be held at Haven Lutheran Church on Friday, August 2, 2024, at 9:30 am, with the Rev. Ed Harper officiating. There will be a graveside service at the Salisbury National Cemetery Annex at the VA Hospital at 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Haven Lutheran Church, 207 W. Harrison St., Salisbury, NC 28144, or the donor's choice.
