Benjamin Johnson Obituary

Benjamin Johnson Sr., affectionally called "Benny", was born in Rowan County on March 9, 1959 in Rowan County, NC. He was the son of the late Mamie Lee Perry Johnson. Benny was raised by his grandparents, the late Jimmie and Jennie Hawthorne. He departed this life, at his home, on Saturday, January 20, 2024. Benny was a1978 graduate of Davie High School where he met the love of his life, Jeanette Fowler Johnson. He also received an Associate degree for Mechanical Maintenance from Rowan Community College.

He was employed at Hoechst Celanese and retired after 36 years of dedicated service. After retirement, he worked part-time at Lowe's Home Improvement where he assisted in all departments and made lasting impressions on each customer. Benny loved his lawn and gardening and was known for dropping off bags of fresh vegetables to his friends and family members. His prize crops were his collard greens, cucumbers and tomatoes, which he took pride in as "the best he had ever eaten ".

He was known for his big booming voice and that proud rhythmic walk. His outgoing personality made it easy for him to be a servant to the community. He would help anybody do anything. Benny had the gift of being a good listener which is probably why he had so many best friends.

He was an avid Nascar fan. He and his sister Charlotte would analyze, commentate, trash and critique races for hours on end.

Those that are left with precious and loving memories are his wife of 42 years, Jeanette Fowler Johnson; son, Benjamin Jr. (Carla); sisters, Emily Perry of Salisbury and Charlotte (Henry) Giles of Salisbury; grandchildren, Jordan (William) Warlick, Tyler (Chloe) Chuby, Ayden Johnson, and Benjamin Johnson, III; two great-grandchildren, Harper Warlick, and Lincoln Chuby; his devoted dog Hezekiah; his sister and brothers in-law that have loved him as a brother for almost 50 years; a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, relatives and friends.

“Blue” and Maude together for 49 years (married 42).

Arrangements: Services will be Saturday, January 27, 2024 in the A.R Kelsey Memorial Chapel, Noble and Kelsey Funeral Home, Inc. with Visitation at 12:00 PM and Funeral at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow services at Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery. Pastor James Ledbetter, III, Officiating and Pastors Gary Withers and Rodney Barker will provide Words of Perspective.

In loving memory of my father-in-law, who embraced me with open arms, treating me like his own. His warm hugs and constant support meant the world to me. He was just a phone call away, offering wisdom and love in every situation. I'll miss him dearly (and his emojis). Thank you for raising such a wonderful, loving, respectful son whom I can call my husband. I love you, Benny! Until we meet again, Carla
