Brenda Avery Obituary

Mrs. Brenda Ann Gaither Avery, 70, passed on Sunday, January 5, 2025 at her residence.

Born February 13, 1954 in Rowan County, she was the daughter of late Lonnie Gaither, Sr. and Maggie Wood Gaither.

Educated in the public schools of Rowan County, Brenda attended R.A. Clement High School and graduated from West Rowan High School, Class of 1972. Her education continued at Rowan Cabarrus Community College and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte where she received her Bachelor's Degree in Psychology. She was last employed as an educator with the Rowan/Salisbury School System.

A member of Rock Hill Church of Christ, she taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and was very active with Bible Study.

Her community involvement included working with AARP, American Legion Post 107 Women's Auxiliary, financial secretary for the R.A. Clement Alumni Association, and was a board member of West Rowan Community Center Advisory Council.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Wayne Avery, Sr.; brother, William “Dusty” Gaither; and sister, Emma “Jean” Gaither.

Those left to forever cherish her memories are her children, Quentina Avery, Jerry W. Avery, Jr. and Brian Avery (Andrea) all of Salisbury; brother, Lonnie “Buddy” Gaither, Jr. of Cleveland; sisters, Margo Gaither of Cleveland, Betty Harmon (Charles) of Columbia, SC, and Stephanie Gaither Harris (John) of Durham; 8 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Arrangements: Public Walk Thru Monday, January 13, 2025 from 2pm-6pm at the funeral home. Services will be Tuesday, January 14, 2025 in the A.R. Kelsey Memorial Chapel, Noble and Kelsey Funeral Home, Inc. with Visitation at 12pm and Funeral at 1pm. Interment will be Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at 11am in the Salisbury National Cemetery. Brother Denon Hogue, Eulogist.

Mrs. Avery will always be remembered as such a sweet person with a heart of gold. We will miss her presence and dedication to the JC Price 107 Auxiliary Unit. She was ALWAYS willing to offer her service. Family, you all are in our prayers.
