Christopher Drye Obituary

Mr. Christopher (Chris) James Drye, age 48 of Rockwell passed away Tuesday, January 8, 2019. Mr. Drye was born April 4, 1970 in Cabarrus County to Naomi Lane Holcomb Drye and the late Carl Allen Drye. He graduated from South Rowan High School where he played football and also was a member of the Shrine Bowl team his senior year in high school. He went on to graduate from Catawba College earning a degree in Business. Chris was in the salvage business owning his own business, Drye's Auto Crushing for many years. He never met a stranger and made friends everywhere he went. He had a large personality and loved to put a smile on your face and make you laugh. He was an expert grill master and loved hearing you tell him how good his food was. He loved pets and cared deeply for his own “fur babies”, Anna, Spice, Frances and Dixie. He truly will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Those left to cherish his memory are his two sons, Caleb Allen Drye and Carson James Drye, both of Salisbury. Also surviving Chris are his brother, John Allen Drye (Lesleigh) and sister Lynn Drye Trester (John) also of Salisbury. He also leaves behind nieces, Carley Drye Blumfield (Scott) of Forest, VA, Alexandra Lane Drye of Columbia, SC and Natalie Michelle Trester of Salisbury and a nephew, James Adam Drye of Salisbury. I did not personally know Chris, but are friends with his wonderful sons. My prayers are with the Drye family as they grieve the loss of a man who left us way too early. May God bless you during this difficult time and give you strength and peace.

Many of my strongest memories from childhood include Chris Drye. We became friends in second grade at North Hills Christian school through China Grove Jr High and South Rowan. As teenagers Carl and Naomi always welcomed us into their home, whether it was at the Landis house or Lake house we always knew we were going to eat well, laugh hard and have a good time. (Bacon eggs and biscuits for breakfast peel and eat shrimp for lunch- steak and baked potato for supper with snacks in between was highly likely- thank you Ms. Drye, 30+ years later we have not forgotten)
Chris was one of the greatest High School Linebackers ever come through the state of North Carolina and the only player I know that played both ways in the Shrine Bowl. Everything Chris did was full throttle

Thanks for the memories Old Friend!
