Jake 'Paw Paw' Hill

EAST SPENCER - Mr. Jake "Paw Paw" Hill, age 84, of South Long Street, passed on Saturday, June 11, 2011, at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.

Born Feb. 3, 1927, in Lincoln County, he was a son of the late Roy and Emma Ross Hill. Educated in the public schools in Lincoln County, he retired after 47 years from the U.S. Post Office.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in World War II.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings Paul, Roscoe and LeRoy Hill, Bessie Nixon and Emma Nixon.

Survivors include his wife of 57-1/2 years, Pauline Ross Hill; children Bernard R. Hill (Donna) of Marion, Curtis Hill of the home, Alice (Calvin) Suber of Spencer, Derrick Hill and Eric Hill of the home, Emma Bynum of Lincolnton and James F. Phinx of Denver, N.C.; one grandchild reared in the home, Derrika Hill; 11 other grandchildren, Terrence Hill, Edwin Suber, Marion Sturdivant, Michael Hill, Jessica Hill, Alycia Suber, Ashley Hill, Cory Davis, Darrion Hill, Tonya Phinx and Angela Phinx; 10 great-grandchildren, Tiara, Dalynn, Trent, Jadisse, Lamiyah, Ty'rin, Sheenya, Donavon, Braelyn and Drayden; five sisters, Essie Foster of Iron Station, Willie Hunter of Lincolnton, Alice Jones of Silver Springs, Md., Frances Huff of Temple Hills, Md., and Margie Jackson of Camp Spring, Md.; brother-in-law Carnell Jones; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends

Visitation: Friday, 10 a.m. in the A.R. Kelsey Memorial Chapel at Noble and Kelsey Funeral Home. At other times, the family will receive friends at the home of daughter and son-in-law Alice and Calvin Suber, 701 Spencer Ave, , Spencer.

Funeral: Friday, 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel.

Minister: Pastor B.R. Holder, Pastor of Faith Baptist Church, Inc., is Eulogist.

Military Rites and Burial: Salisbury National Cemetery, Statesville Boulevard.

I worked with Jake for 10 years at the Salisbury Post Office.The thing I remember about him the most is he was always smiling!!! I am sorry for your loss and pray God's comfort over your whole family. I know he will be missed greatly.
